    Abstract: An method of operating a plant includes the steps of feeding a reagent to a direct contact heating device (32) for removing ammonia from fluid fed to the direct contact heating device (32), feeding water to the direct contact heating device (32) to contact the fluid after the fluid is contacted with the reagent fed to the direct contract heating device (32), and feeding the water from the direct contact heating device (32) to a water wash tower (20) that is downstream of a carbon dioxide absorber (14) configured to use ammonia to remove carbon dioxide from fluid fed therein. The water wash tower (20) can be configured to remove ammonia from the fluid fed therein prior to that fluid being fed to the direct contact heating device (32). A plant and an apparatus for integrating desulfurization and carbon capture are configurable to implement the method.

    Abstract: An ammonia recovery system and method for removing ammonia from a gas stream is provided. The system includes an ammonia recovery vessel for contacting a solution, having a dissolved acidic salt, with the gas stream, having ammonia. The dissolved acidic salt solution absorbs the ammonia in the gas stream to provide an ammonia-lean gas stream and an ammonia-rich solution. The ammonia-rich solution is heated within an ammonia stripper to release the ammonia from the ammonia-rich solution to thereby generate an ammonia-rich gas stream and the solution having dissolved acidic salt. A heat exchanger heats the dissolved acidic salt from the ammonia stripper prior to the solution being provided to the ammonia recovery system. The acidic salt has a low thermal decomposition.

    Abstract: An apparatus for producing formate from carbon dioxide includes a reactor (115) that is configured to receive carbon dioxide from a separation device (109) and a first reagent to form a formate and a bicarbonate material. The bicarbonate material is sent to a regeneration device (123) that also receives a second reagent from a source of the second reagent to form the first reagent and a carbonate material. The first reagent is recycled back to the reactor (115). The carbonate material can be stored in a storage device (131) for subsequent sale or other use and/or sent to a process device (109) of a plant for processing flue gas to remove one or more acid gas elements from the flue gas by using the carbonate material received from the regeneration device (123).
