摘要: Methods of sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2) are provided. Aspects of the methods include contacting a CO2 containing gaseous stream with an aqueous medium under conditions sufficient to produce a bicarbonate rich product. The resultant bicarbonate rich product (or a component thereof) is then combined with a cation source under conditions sufficient to produce a solid carbonate composition and product CO2 gas, followed by injection of the product CO2 gas into a subsurface geological location to sequester CO2. Also provided are systems configured for carrying out the methods.

摘要: Provided is a facilitated CO2 transport membrane having an improved CO2 permeance and an improved CO2/H2 selectivity. The facilitated CO2 transport membrane includes a separation-functional membrane that includes a hydrophilic polymer gel membrane containing a CO2 carrier and a CO2 hydration catalyst. Further preferably, the CO2 hydration catalyst at least has catalytic activity at a temperature of 100° C. or higher, has a melting point of 200° C. or higher, or is soluble in water.

摘要: A method for removing carbon dioxide directly from ambient air, using a sorbent under ambient conditions, to obtain relatively pure CO2. The CO2 is removed from the sorbent using process heat, preferably in the form of steam, at a temperature in the range of not greater than about 130° C., to capture the relatively pure CO2 and to regenerate the sorbent for repeated use. Increased efficiency can be achieved by admixing with the ambient air, prior to contacting the sorbent, a minor amount of a preferably pretreated effluent gas containing a higher concentration of carbon dioxide. The captured carbon dioxide can be stored for further use, or sequestered permanently. The above method provides purified carbon dioxide for further use in agriculture and chemical processes, or for permanent sequestration.

摘要: Disclosed embodiments provide a system and method for producing hydrocarbons from biomass. Certain embodiments of the method are particularly useful for producing substitute natural gas from forestry residues. Certain disclosed embodiments of the method convert a biomass feedstock into a product hydrocarbon by hydropyrolysis. Catalytic conversion of the resulting pyrolysis gas to the product hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide occurs in the presence of hydrogen and steam over a CO2 sorbent with simultaneous generation of the required hydrogen by reaction with steam. A gas separator purifies product methane, while forcing recycle of internally generated hydrogen to obtain high conversion of the biomass feedstock to the desired hydrocarbon product. While methane is a preferred hydrocarbon product, liquid hydrocarbon products also can be delivered.

摘要: The invention relates to a process for recovering methane from a gas stream comprising methane and ethylene, comprising: a sorption step which comprises contacting the gas stream comprising methane and ethylene with a sorption agent which has a lower affinity for methane than for ethylene, wherein the gas stream comprising methane and ethylene also comprises a compound for which the sorption agent has a lower affinity than for methane and ethylene, resulting in sorption of ethylene and methane by the sorption agent and in a gas stream comprising the compound for which the sorption agent has a lower affinity than for methane and ethylene; a first desorption step which comprises desorbing part of the sorbed methane resulting in a gas stream comprising methane in an amount of 1 to 99.9% based on the amount of methane in the gas stream that is subjected to the sorption step; and a second desorption step which comprises desorbing sorbed compounds resulting in a gas stream comprising the desorbed compounds.
