Abstract: An aluminum container body and a method of forming the same by ironing the side wall of a drawn cup to thin and lengthen it, and reforming the bottom end wall of the ironed cup to form therein an upwardly domed central portion connected through a substantially vertical wall section and an outwardly and upwardly tapered shoulder into the side wall of the can body. The ironed can body may have a protective coating applied to its inner surfaces and cured thereon prior to reforming the end wall.
