    Abstract: A safety vent is provided for an aerosol container which includes a metal closure member adapted to be sealed on a container body and having an integral hollow groove therein, an integral hollow rib interrupting and spanning the groove, and a score line in the groove across the rib to weaken the rib so that excessive pressure in the container will fracture the residual metal in the score line across the rib to vent the pressure from the container.

    Abstract: An easy opening container component and a method and tools for forming the same are provided in which the container component includes a substantially rigid inwardly displaceable opening panel including a V-shaped weakening indentation therearound in the public or exterior surface of the component providing a fracturable web at the root of the indentation adapted to be fractured by inwardly directed pressure digitally applied against an integral outwardly projecting deflectable portion of the container component around the opening panel. The V-shaped indentation may be formed in the exterior surface of the container component while the opposite surface lies against a rounded anvil which forms an inwardly concave undersurface on the nonpublic surface of the container component, and may be formed in sheet metal without destroying the integrity of a protective coating on the interior surface thereof.

    Abstract: A forging die having an irregularly shaped cavity and a method of making the same. A cylindrical die has a calculated interference fit in a cylindrical shrink ring which is applied to it without welding or fusing, so as to prestress the material of the die, without detailed calculations of the stresses induced in the die by the ring and without making allowances for distortion of the cavity by the ring. Thereafter the irregular cavity is cut or sunk into the die. During the sinking of the cavity, stresses in the ring are partially relieved and distortion of the cavity is machined out as the machining proceeds. At such time, compressive stresses developing in the corners of the cavity will be limited by plastic deformation to the yield strength of the material. The compressive stresses remaining after the cavity is sunk provide a working stress range of about twice the range which would be available without the prestressing.

    Abstract: An improved racquet construction for paddle ball games and the like including a pair of spaced-apart opposed striking faces having sandwiched therebetween a honeycomb-like network comprising a light weight, high strength composition, especially aluminum. The honeycomb network conforms generally to the blade configuration and extends integrally into a handle portion for the racquet to become a part thereof. An edging strip, preferably comprising aluminum, is provided at the periphery of said sandwich construction and extends into said handle portion. The sandwich construction may be maintained by means of a suitable adhesive whereby said striking faces may be bonded to said edging strip.
