Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for communicating data over control plane in a 5G system. For example, some embodiments are directed to a user equipment (UE). The UE includes processor circuitry and radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, a first message for connecting to a 5G network and indicating a capability of the UE relating to Cellular Internet of Things (CIOT). The processor circuitry can be further configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry and via a control plane to the 5G network, a second message comprising mobile originated data. The processor circuitry can be further configured to receive, using the radio front end circuitry, a third message from the 5G network.

For example, some embodiments are directed to a user equipment (UE). The UE includes processor circuitry and radio front circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to receive, using the radio front end circuitry and from a Non-Access Stratum layer (NAS) of a cell, an indication to use a 5G Core Network (5GCN) for the cell. The processor circuitry can be further configured to transmit, using the radio front end, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection request in response to the indication to use the 5GCN.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and storage media are provided for user equipment (UE) that supports enhanced coverage and may operate with a voice centric usage setting or a data centric usage setting. When the UE's usage setting is set to voice centric, the UE may not operate in coverage enhancement (CE) mode B. When the UE's usage setting is set to data centric, then the UE may operate in CE mode B. The UE may indicate the UE's usage setting in an Attach or Tracking Area Update (TAU) request message, and a mobility management entity (MME) may indicate to an evolved NodeB that CE mode B is restricted or not restricted based on the usage setting. Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system. The UE includes a processor circuitry, and radio front end circuitry coupled to the processor circuitry. The processor circuitry is configured to determine and indicate, to a core network via a radio access network (RAN), one or more cellular internet of things (CIoT) features that are required by the UE and CIoT network behavior expected from the core network to support the one or more CIoT features that are required by the UE. The processor circuitry is configured to select either an enhanced packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC) to establish a wireless connection with the core network, based on a first set of CIoT features supported by the EPC and a second set of CIoT features supported by the 5GC received from the core network.

Abstract: An apparatus of user equipment (UE) comprises one or more baseband processors to process at least one non-public network (NPN) identifier (NPN-ID) broadcast by an NPN and zero or more Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identifier (PLMN-ID) broadcast by a PLMN, to compare the NPN-ID against a logical list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs ranked in decreasing order of priority, and to connect with the highest ranked processed NPN or PLMN based on a rank of the NPN-ID in the list. The apparatus can include a memory to store the list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs as a logical list of Equivalent Home Networks or as Operator Controlled Network Selector with Access Technology list.

The gNB receives a data packet for transmission to a user equipment (UE) implementing the RAN convergence functionality, the data packet comprising one of a control plane (CP) packet or a user plane (UP) packet. The gNB splits the data packet via a convergence layer residing on the NR CU or a convergence layer residing on the WLAN CU and transmits the split data packet over the NR access and the WLAN access.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus of a User Equipment (UE) device includes memory storing non-public network (NPN) configuration information, a radio frequency (RF) interface, and processing circuitry coupled to the memory and the RF interface. The RF interface receives information broadcast by a radio access network (RAN) node of the particular NPN, where the information includes a NPN indicator indicating that the RAN node supports a NPN and NPN service information indicating services supported by the particular NPN. The processing circuitry establishes, in response to detecting the NPN indicator in the information received from the RAN node, a connection to the particular NPN based on the NPN configuration information and the NPN service information received from the RAN node.
