Abstract:
In a light water boiling reactor, a superstructure comprising a steam treating unit and a lid for the moderator tank is arranged above the moderator tank and is detachable for the purpose of interchange of fuel. A shield substantially concentric with the moderator tank and having a greater diameter is attached to the tank in such a position that the upper end of the shield is at a level above the lid of the tank. The superstructure is fixed to the upper part of the shield by a detachable hook joint which transmits compressive force against the lid to force it against the top of the tank through rodlike supporting members.
Abstract:
In a BLWR exchangeable guide tubes for cruciform control rods are indirectly supported by the bottom of the reactor vessel and carry at their upper ends square support blocks, each being provided with four holes for four fuel assemblies, said holes being symmetrically distributed around a central cruciform slot for the control rod. The support blocks are arranged in an edge to edge relationship, thus forming an even bottom for the core volume. Each guide tube has at its upper end four depressions, thereby obtaining a cruciform cross section and permitting flow of coolant from outside the tubes to the fuel assemblies.
Abstract:
IN A LIGHT WATER REACTOR, A CONTROL ROD IS OF CRUCIFORM CROSS-SECTION AND RUNS IN A CRUCIFORM GAP BETWEEN FUEL ASSEMBLIES ARRANGED IN A SQUARE, AND IN A GUIDE TUBE ARRANGED BELOW THE FUEL ASSEMBLY. THE GUIDE TUBE HAS A SOMEWHAT GREATER DIAMETER THAN THE SPAN OF THE CONTROL ROD ACROSS THE CRUCIFORM SECTION. THE CONTROL ROD IS JOINED TO AN OPERATING DEVICE ARRANGED UNDER THE GUIDE TUBE. AT THE LOWER END OF THE CONTROL RODS THE POINTS OF THE CONTROL ROD CROSS ARE PROVIDED WITH GUIDE PLATES ROUNDED OFF AT THE POINTS FACING THE GUIDE TUBE. THE GUIDE PLATES MAY CONSIST OF GRAPHITE OR BE COATED ON THE SURFACE FACING THE GUIDE TUBE WITH A HARD MATERIAL SUCH AS STELLITE. THE ROUNDING OFF OF THE GUIDE PLATES HAS A SLIGHTLY SMALLER RADIUS OF CURVATURE THAN THE GUIDE TUBE.
