Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, detecting a request for a network service between two network nodes and identifying a network path between the two network nodes, wherein the network path is realized by equipment performing a number of network functions. A first network function of the number of network functions is associated with a first number of redundant virtualized network resources performing at least a similar network function as the first network function. Usage metrics are determined corresponding to the first number of redundant virtualized network resources and a first virtualized network resource of the first number of redundant virtualized network resources is assigned to the network path based on the usage metrics to obtain a first assigned virtualized network resource. The network service is provided between the two network nodes using the first assigned virtualized network resource. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device providing network communications services to user devices using a frequency band and to machine-to-machine (M2M) communication devices in the Internet of Things (IoT). The device monitors traffic loads in the frequency band due to the user devices and due to the M2M communication devices. Depending on the traffic loads, the M2M communication devices use a narrowband carrier within the frequency band, within the adjacent guard band, or separate from the frequency band and guard band as a standalone carrier. The narrowband M2M carriers are dynamically deployed to support the user devices and IoT devices. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining a request to transfer data to a group of wireless communication devices within an area. Wireless base stations of a wireless mobility network are identified, responsive to the request, wherein the wireless base stations provide wireless communication services within the area, including a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) service. A wireless transmission is facilitated of a first broadcast message by the wireless base stations, wherein the first broadcast message identifies the group of wireless communication devices. The broadcast message is transmitted by way of the MBMS service of the wireless communication services. The first broadcast message initiates a state transition to an active state for a plurality of wireless communication devices of the group of wireless communication devices configured in an idle state.
