    Abstract: A three-dimensional adjustable door mounting system and method for aligning and installing a hinged door within a frame. In one embodiment, the mounting system includes one or more captive nuts mounted to the door. The captive nut includes a movable adjusting plate retained by a stationary holding bracket mounted to the door. A threaded fastener inserted through a hinge door leaf and into the adjusting plate allows an installer to move and adjust the position of the hinge relative to the door in a first plane. In other embodiments, captive nuts may further be affixed to the door frame. A threaded fastener inserted through a hinge frame leaf and into the adjusting plate allows an installer to move and adjust the position of the hinge and door relative to the frame in a second plane different than the first plane.

    Abstract: A slim profile covered pinned hinge is provided which comprises a first hinge member, a second hinge member, and a mechanically articulated cover. The first and second hinge members are pivotally connected by a pin. The first and second hinge members may each further comprise a leaf for attachment to a hinged object, a door or door jamb for example, and at least one knuckle through which the pin may be received. The cover may be elongated and has an internal cavity, thereby allowing the cover to be slipped over the hinge concealing the knuckles and joints therebetween of the hinge members. The cover has two ends and may be mechanically coupled to the pin at one or both ends. In one embodiment, at least one end of the pin may have at least two gears comprising a gear segment. The ends of the cover may have at least one gear rack to engage the gears on the end of the pin. Angularly opening and closing the first and second hinge members moves the cover with respect to the pin, providing additional clearance to allow for the leaves of the hinge members to swing as the hinge is operated.

    Abstract: Two hinge members are pivotally mounted about edges of a clamp. Thrust bearings are disposed in recesses in both hinge members for preventing relative movement between the hinge members along the clamp length. Antirotation portions of the bearings resist rotation of the bearings caused by torque produced by the hinge members on the bearings. In one embodiment, the clamp has a longitudinal key that is engaged within a keyway in the bearings that prevents bearing rotation. In another embodiment, the bearings have a longitudinal free extension on at least one side of a bearing body. The extensions increase the effective length of the bearings, limiting rotation. The extensions are preferably meshable with other bearings for transferring torque between adjacent bearings, or bearings may overlap the extensions. More preferably, the extensions are lockable to other bearings. The clamp may have notches extending between its walls and a clamp base such that the clamp base remains unaltered upon bending of the walls. Additionally, the thrust bearings may have lateral free extensions that increase the width of the bearing and that have a smaller width once mounted within the clamp to reduce gaps therebetween.

    Abstract: A multiple piece thrust bearing assembly for a hinge structure having two hinge members and a clamp member. The hinge members are rotatably joined along their adjacent longitudinally extending edges by intermeshing gear segments which are held together by the clamp member to permit smooth and uniform movement of the hinge members. The multi-piece thrust bearing assembly of the present invention comprises a thrust bearing member and bearing inserts arranged between the thrust bearing member and each of the hinge members for improving durability of the thrust bearing assembly and, thereby, the hinge structure. The thrust bearing member of the bearing assembly is formed from a non-metallic material which extends laterally across the hinge members to inhibit their longitudinal movement relative to each other.     Abstract: A pinned hinge with articulating cover system and associated method for assembly are provided. In one embodiment, the hinge includes first and second hinge members pivotally coupled together. A plurality of geared bearing inserts are mounted to knuckles of the hinge members. A cover adapter clip is mounted on the knuckles that is configured to movably engage the geared bearing inserts. A cover is mounted on the cover adapter clip to complete the cover system. Opening and closing leaves of the hinge members displaces the cover to prevent interference with the hinge members during operation. The cover adapter clip and cover are resiliently structured in some embodiments to facilitate lateral assembly of the clip and cover to the hinge for convenience of installation. The geared bearing inserts further include an integral load bearing portion and provide vertical load-bearing support for the hinge.

    Abstract: A hinge including leaves configured to facilitate adjusting the mounting position between hinged objects. In one embodiment, the hinge may generally include first and second leaves pivotally connected together. The leaves define mounting holes that receive fasteners to mount the leaves to the hinged objects. The mounting holes are preferably configured to provide adjustment of the leaves and hinged objects in at least two directions, which may be horizontal and vertical. In one embodiment, the hole shapes preferably may include horizontal slots, vertical slots, round holes, and combinations thereof. Other shapes may be used. When a fastener is partially inserted into a hinged object through a slotted-type mounting hole, for example, the hinged object is slideable relative to the leaf and the other hinged object. By employing a preferred sequence of installation steps, the installer may readily optimize the alignment between and mounting of the hinged objects. In one embodiment, the hinged objects may be a door and a door frame. A method of installation using the specially-configured leaves is also provided.
