Abstract: A shakeout and crushing apparatus for reducing bonded sand molds to a condition for reuse in a molding process. The apparatus consists of an orbitally vibrated chamber having a first upper shakeout deck, a second intermediate disintegration deck including a plurality of crushing balls, and a third deck which consists of a screen. Material not passing through the screen passes through a secondary disintegration deck where any remaining friable material is crushed.

Abstract: A conveyor for sand molds, wherein the molds are caused to move from the inlet end to the discharge end by forcing a mold onto the inlet end, thereby pushing a mold from the discharge end, once the conveyor is completely filled with molds. The conveyor is constructed of a plurality of stationary, spaced, longitudinal slats. Positioned intermediate some of the stationary slats are a plurality of movable slats. During operation, a lifting force is applied beneath the movable slats, which force is something less than that required to lift the string of molds off the upper surface of the stationary slats. This results in less force being necessary to move the mold string from the inlet end towards the outlet end of the conveyor, thus reducing the possibility of crushing or breaking the sand molds.

Abstract: Apparatus for thermally reclaiming resin coated sand comprising a plurality of vertical chambers in which the sand is fluidized. The chambers are in series flow relationship proceeding from an inlet chamber to a heating chamber and then to an outlet chamber. The intermediate heating and cooling chambers have a common wall between them so that heat is transferred from the sand to be cooled to the incoming sand. The heat input to the heating chamber is controlled in response to the sand temperature in that chamber. The fluidizing air to the inlet and outlet chambers may be separated from the remainder of the fluidized air and controlled in response to the outlet sand temperature by increasing the activity in the inlet and outlet chambers to reduce sand temperature and by decreasing the activity to reduce the outlet sand temperature. The inlet chamber is segmented to provide for the removal of heavy particles introduced to that chamber on an intermittent basis.

Abstract: Mixing apparatus for intimately mixing two or more different materials including a horizontally positioned cylindrical housing, a rotatable axial shaft extending throughout the length of the housing, the shaft having a plurality of blades attached thereto, which blades are at an angle of inclination such as to impart helical motion to the mixing materials, thus moving them from an inlet end of the housing to the outlet end. Some of the blades are shorter than others, so that an intermittent, shearing, mixing action of the materials takes place as they traverse the length of the housing.
