摘要： A support and sealing arrangement for the vessel head of a nuclear reactor. The arrangement comprises a first support ring supported in the vessel cavity in which the reactor vessel is disposed, a plurality of flexible struts spaced about the circumference of the reactor vessel each of which has one end connected to the first support ring, and a second support ring which is supported by the other ends of the flexible struts to support the vessel head. The first and second support rings are each concentrically arranged with respect to the reactor vessel. Also, sealing means are provided for preventing fluid communication between the interior of the reactor vessel and the vessel cavity, and between the vessel cavity and the outside atmosphere.

摘要： A method of making plastic screen where a plurality of pegs are vertically positioned within an open topped mold by passing a peg through each opening of a positioning screen member located above the mold, and a castable liquid plastic is then poured into the mold. The bottom ends of the pegs are tapered, so that the holes or openings in the finished plastic screen are flared. Metal reinforced plastic screen is made in the same manner, only a peg is positioned within each opening of a metal screen, whose openings are the same size as, and are in alignment with, the openings of the positioning screen member, the metal screen being positioned closely adjacent the mold bottom or base, and the liquid plastic is poured into the mold to a height above the metal screen. The pegs are smaller than the metal screen openings, so that no metal is exposed in the finished article.

摘要： A nuclear reactor control rod anti-ejection lock for use with magnetic jacking type control rod drives and having a spring pressed pawl which ratchets to allow insertion of the control rod but prevents ejection or withdrawal unless the control rod drive is in an upper position or the latch mechanism of the drive is in latched position. The drive comprises two axially spaced axially movable drive members around the rod and magnets selectively alternately moving the members in two opposite directions along or with the rod. Each member carries a latch or gripper and an axially movable sleeve, selectively magnetically operated, to operate the latch to connect or disconnect the rod and respective drive member. A push rod connects each sleeve and the pawl and disables the pawl when either sleeve is in position to latch the control rod and a drive member. The stroke of the drive member may be made less than the stroke of the sleeve and a lost motion incorporated in the push rod connection so that the drive member will not disable the pawl.

Ultrasonic energy is beamed at and accoustically coupled to the surface of a material having a weldment therein. The angle of incidence of the beam with the surface is controlled to provide in the material a refracted beam of ultrasonic energy in the longitudinal wave mode at an angle and in a direction which intersect the weld at an oblique angle relative to the surface at the weld. An ultrasonic receiving transducer positioned over the weld senses ultrasonic energy redirected by any discontinuity in the weld.

摘要： A conveyor for sand molds, wherein the molds are caused to move from the inlet end to the discharge end by forcing a mold onto the inlet end, thereby pushing a mold from the discharge end, once the conveyor is completely filled with molds. The conveyor is constructed of a plurality of stationary, spaced, longitudinal slats. Positioned intermediate some of the stationary slats are a plurality of movable slats. During operation, a lifting force is applied beneath the movable slats, which force is something less than that required to lift the string of molds off the upper surface of the stationary slats. This results in less force being necessary to move the mold string from the inlet end towards the outlet end of the conveyor, thus reducing the possibility of crushing or breaking the sand molds.
