Abstract: The invention relates to systems, processes and apparatuses for determining a rig-state of a drilling rig during a wellbore drilling operation and detecting and mitigating drilling dysfunctions. These systems, processes and apparatuses provide a computer with a memory and a processor, a plurality of sensors associated with a wellbore drilling operation for acquiring time series data wherein the data are formatted for sample and bandwidth regularization and time-corrected to provide substantially time-synchronized data, a processing graph of data-stream networked mathematical operators that applies continuous analytics to the data at least as rapidly as the data are acquired to determine dynamic conditions of a plurality of rig conditions associated with the wellbore drilling operation and determining a rig-state from the plurality of rig conditions.

Abstract: Systems and methods compute dysfunctions via mapping of tri-axial accelerations of drill pipe into drill-string motions. The methods remove gravitational and centripetal accelerations to yield corrected acceleration data due to the vibration only, transform the corrected acceleration data, and maps resulting transformed acceleration data into continuous drill-string positions. The maps provide 2D/3D visualization of drill-string motions to enable real-time optimization and control of well drilling operations and other scenarios where proactive detection of temporal events in automated systems may aid in avoiding failures.

Abstract: A system and method to identify a dysfunction of a drill-string within a wellbore are provided. The system includes a sensor positioned proximate to a drill-string and proximate to a surface of the wellbore. The sensor is configured to sense a surface condition and generate measurement data. The system also includes a transmitter in communication with the sensor and configured to transmit the measurement data. The system also includes a receiver configured to receive the measurement data from the sensor. The system also includes a processor configured to calculate a downhole measurement based on the measurement data and analyze the downhole measurement to identify the dysfunction.

Abstract: Systems and methods compute dysfunctions via amplitude envelopes that deviate from a mean (normal) state behavior. The envelope function is constructed from a recursive application of the maximum signal value within a given window size. The aforementioned operations are causal and computationally affordable as relative short moving windows are required to trail the current point. Therefore, the proposed envelope and dysfunction calculations are amenable for any source of data streams measured at high sample rates. The effectiveness of the computing is validated as representing multiple physics in real time field drilling operations.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, system and apparatus for synchronizing the time of time series data acquired from a wellbore sensor relative to a reference time series. This comprises acquiring a first time series from a sensor in a wellbore, acquiring a reference time series and determining a linear moveout time correction to apply to the first time series. The linear moveout time correction is equal to the depth of the wellbore sensor divided by the signal propagation velocity. The linear moveout correction is applied to the first time series. The first time series is cross-correlated with the reference time series to determine a cross-correlation time correction to apply to the first time series and the cross-correlation time correction is applied to the first time series to obtain a cross-correlation corrected time series. Dynamic time warping and dynamic cross-correlation may be used to adjust for clock drift.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, system and apparatus for determining real-time drilling operations dysfunctions by measuring the power-loss of signal propagation associated with a drill string in a wellbore. The invention comprises acquiring a first time series from a mid-string drilling sub sensor associated with a drill string in a wellbore and acquiring a second time series from a sensor associated with the drill string wherein the sensor is on or near a drill rig on the surface of the earth. The process further comprises determining the geometry of the wellbore and determining model parameters alpha and beta for characterizing a wellbore using the first time series, the second time series and the geometry of the wellbore by deriving a power loss of signal propagation. The model parameters may then be used for drilling a subsequent well using surface sensor acquired data to detect drilling dysfunctions.
