Abstract: A method and system generate steam for SAGD operation wherein steam generator blowdown water is acidified, cooled and clarified before reuse. Acid Clarification Treatment, or “ACT”, mitigates organic fouling in Once-Through Stream Generators. Lab tests quantitatively and qualitatively show that ACT reduces Total organic carbon (TOC) and ‘bad actors’ TOC, respectively, in blowdown streams.

Abstract: Method of decomposing high molecular weight polymer downhole to prevent chelation of iron by residual high molecular weight polymer thereby producing flowback without iron contamination as chelated iron. A secondary method is also described to treat iron chelated produced water with oxidants at surface conditions, utilizing aluminum electrolytes, specifically low basicity polyaluminum chloride, to either co-precipitate residual polymer and bound iron, or to substitute chelated iron with aluminum in the polymer-metal complex, resulting in liberating of iron to enable neutral pH oxidation and removal by precipitation, coagulation, flocculation and physical separation. The produced water with removed iron can be then stored or re-used for other oilfield applications.

Abstract: A new water treatment system for SAGD operations is disclosed. Instead of treating both produced water and recycled water using warm lime softening systems, the recycled water is combined with saline water in a cold lime softening system. This results in slightly warmed reactions that require less chemicals during the lime softening process while also allowing for larger volumes of treated produced water to be generated by the warm lime softening system.
