Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a method comprising obtaining, using a portable device, identifier information about one or more identifiers associated with one or more of a rack and equipment installed in the rack and displaying on the portable device a picture of the rack captured and displaying on the portable device an overlay that includes markings that define a perimeter of the rack and a plurality of equipment positions within the rack. The method further comprises receiving, by the portable device, an alignment of the overlay on the picture of the rack and the equipment positions and receiving location information for the rack. The method further comprises storing the picture of the rack, the alignment of the overlay on the picture of the rack, the identifier location, and the location information by a management application. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A work order is generated. The work order comprises a first work order step specifying that a port of a first network element is to be connected to a port of a second network element using a cable. The first and second network elements are configured to detect when connections are made at the specified ports of the first network element and the second network element. A management system is configured to update information it maintains to indicate that there is a connection between the specified port of the first network element and the specified port of the second network element if connections made at the specified ports of the first and second network elements are detected during a period in which the first work order step of the first work order is expected to be performed. A similar technique can be used for disconnecting a cable.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring the presence of rack mounted equipment are described herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes one or more racks, each rack in the one or more racks configured to hold rack mounted equipment at one or more positions within the rack. The system also includes one or more sensor bars associated with each position in the one or more positions, wherein each sensor bar in the one or more sensor bars produces a signal that indicates whether the rack mounted equipment is located at the position associated with a respective sensor bar. Further, the system includes an analyzer configured to receive the signal produced by the sensor bar, wherein the analyzer provides an indication that rack mounted equipment is located at the position to an infrastructure management system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for tamper proof cables are described herein. In certain implementations, a system includes one or more pieces of equipment and one or more tamper proof cables connecting the equipment within a network. A tamper proof cable includes a core that provides a transmission medium through the cable; an insulator enveloping the core; a first conductive braid encircling the insulator; a dielectric enveloping the first conductive braid; and a second conductive braid encircling the dielectric, the first and second conductive braids, and the dielectric forming a capacitor. The system includes one or more detectors, each detector coupled to the tamper proof cables, each detector and an associated capacitor forming a tuned circuit, the detectors providing a signal when an associated portion of the tamper proof cables is tampered with; a monitor coupled to the detectors that notifies an infrastructure management system when the signal is received.
