The off-board controller unit comprises a power supply electrically connected to a voltage booster circuit. The lamp fixture comprises an ignitor; a shock mount; and a lamp that is electrically connected to the igniter. The off-board controller supplies power to the lamp at its idle level. The onboard transfer circuit permits the off-board power supply to be disconnected while the onboard controller unit maintains the lamp at idle, and the onboard timing circuit limits the time that the lamp remains at high output. The lamp, including its associated driver circuitry, can be used in theatrical, stage, movie and/or video productions to simulate, among other things, bursts of lightning. The lamp is installed in a fixture together with a power supply and a control system is provided for controlling when the lamp is turned on and off. Preferably, the control system includes manually operated switches and preferably one or more controllers can be coupled together in a series fashion, should it be desired to control the lamp for a greater number of time cycles then permitted by a single controller.

They project in an essentially cylindrical surface which is viewed by people at a viewing location. A lens is associated with each moving image projector, the lens having an optical axis located at or above a top edge of the viewable portion of the cylindrical surface. A source of moving images is associated with each lens, the center of which source is located above the optical axis of the associated lens such that moving images are projected by each lens downwardly toward a portion of the essentially cylindrical surface in an essentially distortion-free manner.

A beam splitter is arranged to split the light from the conduit into two channels, and a pair of photo detectors, one for each channel are arranged to receive the light from the conduit via the beam splitter. A divider circuit has a pair of inputs and an output, the inputs being connected to the two photo detectors and an output circuit is connected to the output of the divider circuit for providing an output signal which is proportional to the color of light captured by the conduit.
