Abstract: A sub-unit of a smoking article includes a tubular wrapper which extends along a main axis of extension and internally defines a containment chamber containing a filling material of the tobacco industry. The tubular wrapper has an access opening on at least one of its ends for access to the containment chamber. The sub-unit also includes at least one closing element applied to the at least one end of the tubular wrapper to define a closing wall for closing the access opening. The closing element extends transversely to the main axis of extension in such a way as to at least partly close the access opening.

Abstract: A device for combining filter segments with cigarette rod segments includes a first feed device for feeding a succession of gummed connecting strips and a second feed device for feeding a succession of groups, each including at least one cigarette rod segment and one filter segment, abutted end to end. A combining conveyor receives the groups in a first receiving station and the succession of strips in a second receiving station downstream of the first receiving station so that each gummed connecting strip is applied in flag-like manner on a respective group to connect the cigarette rod segment to the filter segment. A rolling drum receives the group with strip and rolls the strip round the group. A compression device downstream of the second receiving station and upstream of the release station produces compression between each group and the respective strip.

Abstract: A machine for making sub-units of smoking articles comprises a conveyor, a feed unit, cutting means and at least one rotary applicator. The conveyor is configured to feed a succession of tubular segments of the tobacco industry. The feed unit is configured to feed and convey at least one continuous web. The cutting means are configured to separate a succession of closing elements from a front end of the continuous web. The rotary applicator is operatively associated with the conveyor and is configured to pick up the succession of closing elements and to apply them, preferably by gluing, to an application end of a respective tubular segment, in such a way as to form closing walls to at least partly close the application ends.

Abstract: A machine for making sub-units of smoking articles includes a conveyor, a feed unit and an applicator. The conveyor conveys a succession of tubular segments transversely along a conveying direction. The feed unit feeds and conveys a continuous web and advances the web along a feed direction parallel to the conveying direction of the tubular segments so that the web faces respective application ends of the tubular segments. The applicator is movable along an application direction parallel to an axis of predominant extension of the succession of tubular segments and is configured to engage the web so as to separate respective closing elements from it. The applicator is also configured to apply the closing element internally or externally on an application end of a respective tubular segment in such a way as to form a closing wall to at least partly close the application end.
