Abstract: Pyrolusite-containing photographic anti-halation layers are prepared by reduction of potassium permanganate with hydroxyl containing organic compounds containing a high ratio of oxygen to carbon and preferably polyols having an oxygen to carbon ratio of greater than 1:2.
