    Abstract: A door construction having a transparent sealed window for use with a high temperature self-cleaning oven. The door includes a plurality of glass panes and a cooling air channel extending between two adjacent glass panes, and a hollow radiation blocking shutter which slides into either a lower hidden position or an upper exposed position blocking the window. The shutter in its exposed position covers over the faces of the adjacent glass panes and forces the cooling air to pass upwardly through the shutter to protect the panes from airborne particles of soil that might otherwise lodge on the glass and obscure the visibility through the window.

    Abstract: A hinge system for a removable door for use on a baking oven. The hinge system includes a pair of hinge mechanisms, where each mechanism includes a stationary support bracket, a pivoted door guide, a separate door guide sleeve in the door for receiving the door guide, a spring-loaded hinge lever pivoted to the door guide, and resilient means between the door guide and door guide sleeve for taking out the slack or wobble of the door on the hinge mechanisms. The support bracket includes a roller assembly that cooperates with the hinge lever to provide a door guide slam-prevention protection. The back half of the hinge lever is designed to be free of the roller assembly to improve the balancing forces on the door. The combined roller assembly and support bracket is adjustably mounted from the door frame to enable the changing of the relative position of the door.

    Abstract: A three-position, sliding latch mechanism for an appliance door such as an oven door. The mechanism includes a latch handle and a hidden latching bolt for swinging out and engaging the door. The first position of the latch mechanism is an unlocked position, and the second position is a locked position. The third position is also a locked position, although the latching bolt remains stationary in this locked position as the latch handle is moved between the second and third positions. There are separate interlock switch means that are operable in either the first (unlocked) or the second and third (locked) positions, whereby different oven operations may be performed as a function of the various positions of the latch handle so as to simplify the control circuitry and components.

    Abstract: A sliding latch mechanism for the door of the heated cavity such as an oven door. The latch mechanism includes a latch handle and a pivoted latching bolt for swinging out and engaging the door. There is a thermally responsive locking means for locking the door latching mechanism in its closed position. The locking means comprises a single point snap-acting thermostat and a movable pawl whereby at a sensed temperature of about 600*F. the thermostat will cause the shifting of the pawl for cooperation with the latch mechanism. The thermostat includes switch means for both the power and control circuits for the heating means of the oven.

    Abstract: An oven door of sheet metal construction having an outer door panel, an inner door liner and an inner panel that is adapted to be exposed to the internal oven temperatures. The inner panel is of shallow pan configuration with a peripheral flange that extends into a large opening in the inner door liner. A strip of gasket material encircles the inner panel and spaces the inner panel from the inner door liner in the manner of a thermal break. An insulation guard closes the inner panel to form a closed boxlike structure that is substantially filled with thermal insulating material. A cooling air channel is located between the insulation guard and the outer door panel so that currents of cooling air may pass up through the cooling channel.

    Abstract: A high intensity metal vapor electric discharge lamp having self-heating main electrodes at opposite ends and a starter electrode at one end. A cermet igniter comprising a sintered mixture of metal and refractory or emissive metal oxide is attached to and spaced close to the main electrode at the end having the starter electrode. The igniter operates as much as 1,000*C. cooler than the main electrode and retains its emission material throughout life. A glow or arc initiated on it readily transfers to the main electrode. It serves to reduce the starting voltage or prevent rise in starting voltage in seasoned lamps.
