The invention relates to a sensor device as part of a measurement appliance with a measurement device for the measurement of vital parameters of a foetus during labor and delivery, in particular the oxygen content of the blood of the foetus. Such sensor devices should be applied to the tissue of the foetus in a secure and light-tight manner, and furthermore at least the carrier or sensor should be able to be fitted to the foetus gently and easily. According to the invention, the sensor device comprises a shell-type carrier, which is subdivided into an approximately centrally arranged attachment zone and a surrounding zone, which can be brought into contact with the tissue of the foetus, and the attachment zone is provided with a spiral-type attachment element for attaching the carrier to the leading part of the foetus, and the rotational axis of the attachment element is arranged approximately perpendicular to the surface of the carrier to be fitted to the leading part of the foetus. The surrounding zone comprises at least one light emitter and at least one receiver, whereby the attachment element is supported for rotation with respect to the surrounding zone.

The conductors are arranged in a cable branching off the sensor towards the measuring device, and the cable is introduced laterally, and essentially tangentially, onto a back surface of the sensor and extending in front of an insertion point into the sensor to form a helical partial winding approximately in a plane that extends approximately perpendicular to a center axis of the wire spiral. This arrangement is advantageous in that the cable does not interfere with the tight contact of the sensor with the tissue of the fetus, either during the placement of the sensor or during birth, ensuring that reliable signals will always be received from the fetus during the entire duration of the birth.

The invention relates to the use of a pulse oximetry sensor device. Based on standard methods for recording material labor activity during birth, reliable signals may be created so that a midwife obtains measuring values indicating clear information of maternal labor activity. The invention suggests the use of a pulse oximetry sensor device which measures the change in the oxygen content in the fetal blood during birth. The pulse oximetry sensor device is provided with a least one light emitter and at least one receiver, connected with an analyzing device, and attached to the leading part of the fetus for recording the maternal labor activity.

Chuck jaws having a correspondingly conical guide surface rest against the surface of the chuck body and are secured to one another by means of rubber-elastic spring elements to form a work head. At the rear end of the work head, the chuck jaws have a circumferential groove which is engaged by an annular coupling part. The coupling part is joined to a coupling sleeve which, in turn, can be coupled to the draw-in device of a machine tool. The coupling part comprises a displacement lock which, in the locking position, limits the distance of displacement of the coupling part at a place at which the contact surfaces on the coupling part and the matching contact surfaces on the chuck jaws still radially overlap one another. In the release position of the displacement lock, the coupling part can be displaced forward in the axial direction so that the contact surfaces on the chuck jaws project from the overlap with the coupling part so that the work head can be removed and exchanged for another work head having a different gripping diameter.
