    Abstract: A two degree-of-freedom brushless DC motor includes a stator, a rotor, a plurality of distributed stator windings, and a stator voice coil winding. The stator includes an inner stator structure and a plurality of arc-shaped stator poles. The inner stator structure includes a main body and a plurality of spokes that are spaced apart from each other to define a plurality of stator slots. Each arc-shaped stator pole is connected to a different one of the spokes. The rotor is spaced apart from the stator, includes a plurality of magnets, and is configured to rotate about a plurality of perpendicular axes. The distributed stator windings are wound around the plurality of spokes and extend through the stator slots. The stator voice coil winding is wound around the outer surfaces of the arc-shaped stator poles. The arc-shape and spacing of the stator poles define the stator as being spherically shaped.

    Abstract: An active human-machine interface feedback system includes a user interface, a pitch angle sensor, a roll angle sensor, a spherical motor, and a control circuit. The user interface adapted to receive user input and is configured, upon receipt of the user input, to move, about one or both of a pitch axis and a roll axis, to a user interface position. The pitch angle sensor is configured to sense the pitch angle component of the user interface position. The roll angle sensor is configured to sense the roll angle component of the user interface position. The spherical motor is coupled to the user interface and is symmetrically disposed about the origin. The control circuit determines a polar angle (θ) of the user interface relative to the origin, determine an azimuthal angle (φ) of the user interface relative to the origin, and supply current to the first, second, and third coils.

    Abstract: An active human-machine interface feedback system includes a user interface, a pitch angle sensor, a roll angle sensor, a spherical motor, and a control circuit. The user interface adapted to receive user input and is configured, upon receipt of the user input, to move, about one or both of a pitch axis and a roll axis, to a user interface position. The pitch angle sensor is configured to sense the pitch angle component of the user interface position. The automatic flight servo system includes a manifold that defines a first fluid chamber, and a hydraulic fluid is received in the first fluid chamber. The first fluid chamber includes a first bellows and a second bellows. The automatic flight servo system includes a stick received at least partially within the manifold and pivotally coupled to the manifold. The stick includes a control arm fixedly coupled to the first bellows, and the stick is to receive an input. The automatic flight servo system includes a flight output system pivotally coupled to the manifold. The flight output system includes a second control arm received at least partially within the manifold and coupled to the second bellows such that the pivotal movement of the stick pivots the flight output system relative to the manifold.

The first structure has a first predetermined stiffness, and the first bearing assembly is mounted on the first structure.     Abstract: A multi-degree-of-freedom electromagnetic machine includes a stator, an armature, and a control. The stator includes a first, second, and third stator conductors that follow first, second, and third trajectories that are all different, and that together form a general shape of a surface. The armature is disposed adjacent to, and is movable relative to, the stator, and includes a plurality of spaced-apart armature coils. Each armature coil is configured, upon being electrically energized, to generate a magnetic field.     Abstract: An electromagnetic machine includes a spherical stator, an armature, a first coil, and a second coil. The spherical stator has an outer surface, and the outer surface has a plurality of spaced-apart protuberances formed thereon. Each protuberance extends radially from, and is disposed normal to, the outer surface. The armature is disposed adjacent to the spherical stator and includes a magnet that emanates a magnetic field. The magnet has at least one of its magnetic poles facing the spherical stator. The first coil is wound around at least a portion of the spherical stator, and is disposed between the plurality of spaced-apart protuberances and along latitudinal lines of the spherical stator. The second coil is wound around at least a portion of the spherical stator, and is disposed between the plurality of spaced-apart protuberances and along longitudinal lines of the spherical stator.
