Abstract: Proposed is a gas heat-pump system including: a compressor discharging compressed refrigerant; an indoor heat exchanger causing heat exchange to occur between indoor air and the refrigerant; an outdoor heat exchanger condensing the refrigerant; a four-way valve switching a flow direction; an engine; a radiator cooling heated coolant; an exhaust gas heat exchanger causing the heat exchange to occur between the coolant passing through the radiator and exhaust gas from the engine; and a first three-way valve switching a flow direction of the coolant and controlling an amount of the flowing coolant in such a manner that the coolant passing through the radiator flows toward at least one of the exhaust gas heat exchanger and the engine.

Abstract: An air conditioner and a method for controlling an air conditioner are provided. The air conditioner may include at least one indoor device, an electric heat pump (EHP) outdoor device connected to the at least one indoor device and having an EHP compressor driven using an applied current, and a gas heat pump (GHP) outdoor device connected to the at least one indoor device having an engine driven using a combustion of gas and a GHP compressor driven by receiving a driving force from the engine. The EHP compressor may include an inverter that controls a frequency of the current applied to the EHP compressor. The GHP compressor may include a first compressor that receives a driving force from the engine to compress a refrigerant; and a second compressor that is connected to the first compressor in parallel and receives the driving force from the engine to compress the refrigerant.

Abstract: An air conditioner is provided. The air conditioner may include a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, a receiver storing a portion of a refrigerant passing through the condenser, an accumulator receiving refrigerant stored in the receiver and refrigerant passing through the evaporator to separate gas refrigerant from refrigerant introduced therein and supply the gas refrigerant to the compressor, and a bypass line supplying refrigerant from the receiver to the accumulator. The receiver and the accumulator may be integrally formed or provided as separate parts coupled each other. An outlet end of the bypass line may be connected to an upper portion of the accumulator. Such an arrangement may prevent refrigerant from flowing backward from the accumulator into the receiver.

Abstract: An air conditioner is disclosed. The air conditioner includes an indoor unit, a first outdoor unit including a first outdoor heat exchanger and a first compressor to be driven by electricity, a second outdoor unit including a second outdoor heat exchanger and a second compressor to be driven by an engine, a cooling water line, through which cooling water to cool the engine flows, and at least one waste heat-recovering heat exchanger for exchanging heat between refrigerant to be introduced into at least one of the first outdoor heat exchanger and the second outdoor heat exchanger and the cooling water flowing through the cooling water line. By provision of the waste heat-recovering heat exchanger, which heat-exchanges hot cooling water with refrigerant flowing through the first and second outdoor heat exchangers, frost formed on the first and second outdoor units during low-temperature heating is removed. It is possible to cope with a wide range of heating loads while achieving high efficiency, using both the electric heat pump (EHP) system and the gas engine-driven heat pump (GHP) system.

Abstract: An outdoor heat exchanger includes a passage of a refrigerant that has a length varied depending on an operational mode. The outdoor heat exchanger is included in an air conditioner and configured to operate as a condenser in a cooling operation of the air conditioner and as an evaporator in a heating operation of the air conditioner. The outdoor heat exchanger includes a plurality of plates, a plurality of first refrigerant tubes, a plurality of second refrigerant tubes, and a plurality of third refrigerant tubes. In the cooling operation, a condensed refrigerant flows in the plurality of first refrigerant tubes, the plurality of second refrigerant tubes, and the plurality of third refrigerant tubes. In the heating operation, an evaporated refrigerant flows in the plurality of first refrigerant tubes and the plurality of third refrigerant tubes, but does not flow in the plurality of second refrigerant tubes.
