Abstract: A driving tool including a first mode wherein a mechanical starting control is performed, and a second mode wherein an electrical starting control is performed, where these modes are configured to be switchable. Only in the second mode, if the elapsed time between the on-operation of a trigger and an on-operation of a contact arm does not exceed a reference time T0, then a second actuation portion can be turned to an on-position to perform a driving operation. In the first mode, in contrast to the electric control, without consuming battery power, the driving operation can be performed by the mechanical control that is made by an operational order of the trigger and subsequently the contact arm. Because of this configuration, even if power supply is shut off, the driving operation by the first mode can be continued.

Abstract: A driving tool with a mechanical spring uses urging force from a striking spring as driving force and switches its operation mode. The tool includes a striking driver to strike a fastener, a striking spring urging the driver in a driving direction, a contact arm movable to a retracted position in a counter-driving direction in response to pressing against a workpiece, a trigger movable to an on-position in response to user operation, and a mode selector switch to switch the operation mode between continuous drive mode and single drive mode. A driving operation is performed in the continuous drive mode in response to the contact arm moving to the retracted position and the trigger moving to the on-position in any order, and in the single drive mode in response to the contact arm moving to the retracted position and the trigger moving to the on-position in the stated order.

Abstract: In a rack and pinion mechanism 80, a driving-side pinion gear 83 and a driven-side pinion gear 86 are provided to be coaxially rotatable relative to each other within a predetermined angle range. Because of this construction, in a case where a time when a driver 3 reaches an advancing end position and contacts an advancing end damper 19 deviates from a time when a weight device 5 reaches a retracting end position and contacts a moving end damper 7, an excessive external force is not applied to engaging teeth 81a and 82a by relative rotation of the pinion gears 83 and 86. Thus, due to this construction, durability of the rack and pinion mechanism 80, where end impacts are absorbed through elastic deformation, is improved.
