Abstract:
A method and apparatus for correcting a wrongly-translated word in a device employing speech recognition is provided herein. During operation, a device will use a second language to correct a wrongly-translated word that was wrongly translated using a first language. More particularly, after speech recognition is performed using the first language, when a user selects text to be corrected, the user will utter the speech again using the second language that differs from the first language. Both the first and the second language can be used by the device to determine a best translation of the speech.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for quickly forming a PAN is describe herein. During operation, a person (e.g., a public-safety officer) will be assigned a task or mission that is identified by an identifier (e.g., an incident identifier, or an incident type). A subset of available devices will be paired/associated to form a PAN based on the identified task or mission. In an alternate embodiment of the present invention the subset of available devices may be paired with an existing PAN based on the identified task or mission.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing noise suppression on an electronic device is provided herein. During operation, a volume-control knob will increase a volume of sound output from a device in a substantially linear fashion (versus knob rotation angle) as a volume-control knob is rotated in a first direction. Noise suppression on the electronic device will also increase as the volume-control knob is rotated in the first direction.
Abstract:
A slide actuation apparatus includes a bezel configured to maintain a configuration of the slide actuation apparatus. The bezel also includes an opening on an external surface. The slide actuation apparatus also includes an actuator configured to move within a compartment formed by the opening and a sliding rail configured to guide movements of the actuator along a surface of the sliding rail. The sliding rail is compressible downward in response to movement of the actuator along the surface of the sliding rail. The slide actuation apparatus further includes a slide contact configured to make an electrical connection to a flexible circuit and configured to provide a signal of a change to a circuit board of an attached computing device in response to downward compression of the sliding rail.
Abstract:
A method and circuitry for detecting a touch on a device is provided herein. Touch-sensing circuitry comprises two antennas coupled to two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs). A phase locked loop (PLL) is provided coupled to the VCOs. The PLL compares a VCO output with a frequency source (temperature controlled crystal oscillator (TCXO)), and outputs a tuning voltage (steering voltage) for the VCO that is based on the difference between the VCO frequency and the TCXO frequency. The steering voltages for each VCO are compared, and a decision is made as to whether or not a touch has been made to the antennas. If the antennas have been touched, a location of the touch is determined based on a difference in the steering voltages of the two VCOs.
Abstract:
A light emitting diode (LED) display assembly is formed of a translucent plastic housing, a light diffuser film coupled to the translucent plastic housing, a light barrier gasket coupled to the diffuser film, and an LED module coupled to the light barrier gasket. The LED module comprises a plurality LEDs individually controlled for generating a light source to form a graphic on the surface of the translucent plastic housing.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for volume control of an electronic device is provided herein. During operation, a volume-control knob will increase a volume of sound output from a device in a substantially linear fashion (versus knob rotation angle) as a volume-control knob is rotated. Once the volume-control knob is rotated past a predetermined amount, a volume boost is activated, increasing the volume level in a non-linear fashion. More particularly, in one embodiment of the present invention, once the volume-control knob is rotated past the predetermined amount (e.g., 300 degrees), the volume will be increased instantaneously (e.g., by 25%).
Abstract:
An audio earphone device may include an earpiece configured to playback audio, an earhook attached to the earpiece, and an eartip removably attached to the earpiece. The earpiece may be configured to deliver audio to the ear with the removably attached eartip removed. The earhook may be configured to be placed around an ear to position an opening for a speaker of the earpiece over the cavum concha of the ear. The eartip may be configured to sit in the cavum concha of the ear and channel audio from the opening of the earpiece to the ear canal of the ear. The eartip may be removably attached to only a side of the earpiece that is configured to be proximate to the ear.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for acquiring an image is provided herein. During operation a determination is made that a user is intending to tag an object through pointing a finger at the object. In response, a pre-buffer is accessed, and an image of the object is selected from the pre-buffer that is absent the user's hand. Once the image has been selected, the image can be forwarded to other users.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing a watermark within an audible virtual partner transmission is provided herein. During operation, each officer's digital partner will have a uniquely-identifiable watermark embedded within any audible transmission associated with the digital partner.
