    Abstract: A method and apparatus for quickly forming a PAN is describe herein. During operation, a modulated vibration will be received that identifies that network formation is to take place. All devices detecting the vibration will be paired/associated to form a PAN. In one embodiment of the present invention a first device generates the vibration and the subset of available devices will form a PAN with the first device acting as a master device within the formed PAN. In another embodiment of the present invention, a piece of clothing (e.g., a vest) is equipped with a haptic module (vibrating circuitry) to generate the vibration. All pieces of equipment attached to the piece of clothing will receive the vibration and pair accordingly.

    Abstract: A method for dynamic limiting of battery voltage includes determining that a voltage delivered by a battery exceeds a predefined maximum safe voltage for operation of a portable electronic device in a hazardous environment and, in response, enabling a voltage restriction circuit in a supply line between the battery and the portable electronic device to reduce the voltage delivered by the battery below the maximum safe voltage, and supplying electrical power to the portable electronic device at the reduced voltage. Enabling the voltage restriction circuit may include deactivating a MOSFET switch that includes a forward biased body diode to allow the body diode to provide a fixed voltage drop. The method also includes determining that the voltage delivered by the battery no longer exceeds the maximum safe voltage and, in response, disabling the first voltage restriction circuit by activating the MOSFET, thus allowing the body diode to be bypassed.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided in this disclosure for operating an electronic device that includes a user interface, a microphone, and an electronic processor. The microphone captures an audio stream and the electronic processor analyzes the audio stream to identify spoken words captured by the microphone. The electronic processor detects a violation of a user assistance restriction for the current functional operation of the electronic device based at least in part on a correlation between one or more of the identified spoken words captured by the microphone and a current functional operation of the electronic device involving a manual text entry through the user interface of the electronic device. The electronic processor adjusts one or more operations of the electronic device in response to detecting the violation of the user assistance restriction.

    Abstract: A device and method for switching between message threads is provided. The device includes: a communication interface; a display device; and, a controller. The controller is configured to: generate, at the display device, a first message thread of a plurality of message threads, each message thread comprising groups of associated messages transmitted and received by the communication interface; identify a message portion in the first message thread as being associated with one or more other message threads of the plurality of message threads, based on one or more of: respective content and respective metadata of the one or more other message threads; and, generate, at the display device, a link to the one or more other message threads.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided in this disclosure for operating an electronic device. The electronic device includes a user interface, a camera, and an electronic processor. The electronic processor determines whether a user assistance restriction is established for a current functional operation of the electronic device. The camera captures at least one image, the electronic processor analyzes the at least one image to detect one or more eyes in the field of view of the camera, and the electronic processor detects a violation of the user assistance restriction for the current functional operation based at least in part on the analysis of the at least one image. When a violation of the user assistance restriction is detected, the electronic processor adjusts one or more operations of the electronic device.

    Abstract: A converged device with dual RFPA technology for a dynamic switchable mode. One example provides a communication device comprising a RF transmitter system and a controller. The RF transmitter system includes a plurality of RFPAs, each RFPA having a biasing system and outputting an output signal, and a summing junction, wherein the output signal of each RFPA are combined to form an output RF transmitter signal.
