Abstract:
A light source is provided that includes a reflector for generating a substantially rectangular beam. The light source may include an arc lamp that includes a magnetic field generation means in the vicinity of the arc for reducing the arc diameter, or a secondary reflection means for avoiding part of the light that is generated from being obscured by the arc lamp electrodes.
Abstract:
An arc lamp suitable for use as a high intensity light source in a projection system is described. A reflector is arranged to reflect the light produced by the arc into a directional light beam, secondary reflection means being arranged to direct part of the reflected beam so as to compensate for regions which are obscured by the electrodes. Means are provided within the light source to dissipate heat generated by the electrodes.
Abstract:
A display apparatus for use in a projection system includes a light source, a beam splitter for splitting light from the source into different color component beams and a deformable mirror device spatial light modulators for each different color beam. The light paths to the beam splitter and modulators are provided within a single prism assembly on which the modulators are mounted.
Abstract:
A spatial light modulator system includes a multi-wavelength light source and three spatial light modulators, two dichroic mirrors are arranged in the light path between the light source and the spatial light modulators so as to direct light within a different wavelength band onto all but one of the spatial light modulators, light to the third spatial light modulator passing through the dichroic mirror onto the third spatial light modulator. Spatially modulated light reflected from the spatial light modulators is combined by the two dichroic mirrors to produce a multi-wavelength spatially modulated output beam. In order to equalize the number of reflections uundergone by spatially modulated light from all the spatial light modulators a reflector is provided in the optical path between the third spatial light modulator and the output beam.
Abstract:
The present application relates to apparatus (100) for cooling a light valve device (103), the apparatus comprising an array of elongate members (119), the elongate members (119) each having a tip (131) for contacting the light valve device (103). The apparatus (100) is suitable for cooling a digital micro-mirror device (103). A duct (117) may be provided for directing a flow of air from a fan to the light valve device (103).
Abstract:
A projection device which includes a plurality of deflectable mirror arrays arranged to spatially modulate incident light. A totally internal reflecting surface is arranged to direct light to and from the deformable mirror array. The device includes on or more dichroic layers arranged at an angle relative to the incident light dependent on the spread of angles on the incident beam relative to the optical axis. Additionally or alternatively, the totally internally reflecting surface may be arranged to direct non-spatially modulated light towards a beam dump.
Abstract:
A projection device includes one or more deformable mirror arrays (803) arranged to spatially modulate incident light. A totally internally reflecting surface (809) is arranged to direct light to and from the deformable mirror array (803). The device may include one or more dichroic layers (805) arranged such that the light incident on each dichroic layer (805) is substantially normal incidence to the layer.
Abstract:
A projection system includes a light source (16) and a prism assembly (41) including at least one air gap (45) effective both to deflect incident light on to at least one reflective spatial light modulator (10), and to transmit modulated light produced by the spatial light modulator (10).
Abstract:
A plurality of mountings for locating a shadow mask carrying frame in a color cathode ray tube each comprise one mounting element bonded to the tube wall and another mounting element connected to the frame, which together provide a spring-loaded spigot-and-socket connection. One feature is that the element has a portion bonded to the wall of a compatible material and a second portion of a hard material for low-wear. Another feature is that the element which provides the spigot has a recess therearound within the thickness of the wall into which the other element extends in order to save space.
Abstract:
An apparatus for transferring heat between an object and a fluid, the apparatus comprising at least one set of elongate members, the elongate members each having a tip for contacting the object. The tips of the elongate members generally make a point contact with the object and allow heat to be transferred between the object and a fluid, often air. A gap is provided between adjacent elongate members to facilitate fluid flow around the object and between the elongate members.
