The image transmission unit scales down the image, and transmits the scaled-down image to the image reception unit. The image reception unit calculates an angle between a line displayed in the image transmitted from the image transmission unit and a horizontal direction of the image in correspondence with pixels included in the image, scales up the image transmitted from the image transmission unit, and removes an aliasing component of the scaled-up image based on the calculated angle.

A technique is provided for reducing the size of each of images included in an image signal and generating a high-resolution image with minimized degradation in the image quality from the reduced images. Alias components and motion information that are included in the image signal having the reduced images are used for conversion of the images included in the image signal into a high-resolution image. Low pass filtering is performed on a frequency component in the direction of a motion included in the image signal and a frequency component in a direction other than the direction of the motion. The cut-off frequency of the low pass filter in the direction other than the direction of the motion is lower than the cut-off frequency of the low pass filter in the direction of the motion.

To provide a processing method for reducing motion blur while increasing resolution. By performing a super-resolution process, a resolution-increased image is obtained from an input image in multiple frames. By performing an enlargement process, an enlarged image is obtained from the input image in one frame. A high-frequency image is obtained by subtracting the enlarged image from the resolution-increased image. A high spatial frequency-emphasized image is obtained by adding the high-frequency image to the resolution-increased image. The enlarged image and high spatial frequency-emphasized image are displayed alternately every half frame.
