    Abstract: A ceramic fiber preform includes a plurality of ceramic fiber plies arranged to define a wall, a void adjacent the wall, and an insert positioned within the void. The insert includes a first region having a first porosity and a second region in physical contact with the first region and having a second porosity. The first region and second region are formed from a woven ceramic material, the wall has a wall porosity, and the first porosity is less than at least one of the second porosity and the wall porosity.

    Abstract: An assembly for a gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes at least one platform having a main body extending between a first mate face and a second mate face to establish a gas path surface. The main body has an internal passage extending circumferentially between a first opening along the first mate face and a second opening along the second mate face relative to an assembly axis. A perimeter of the first mate face establishes a first area, a perimeter of the second opening establishes a second area, and the second area is greater than the first area. An airfoil section extends radially from the at least one platform.

    Abstract: A method of forming a ceramic matrix composite includes fabricating a space filling insert by assembling the space filling insert from a fibrous ceramic material, placing the space filling insert into a tooling fixture, the tooling fixture having an internal shape complementary to a shape of the insert, and infiltrating the space filling insert with a first ceramic material. The method further includes forming a preform by laying up a plurality of fibrous ceramic plies and inserting the infiltrated space filling insert into a void defined by the plurality of plies. The method further includes infiltrating the preform with a second ceramic material.

    Abstract: A method for forming ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component includes forming a fiber preform, positioning the fiber preform into a chemical vapor infiltration reactor chamber, and densifying the fiber preform. Densification includes infiltrating the fiber preform with a first gas comprising precursors of silicon carbide and infiltrating the fiber preform with a second gas comprising a first rare earth element, wherein the steps of infiltrating the fiber preform with the first gas and infiltrating the fiber preform with the second gas are conducted simultaneously to produce a first rare earth-doped silicon carbide matrix in a first region of the component.
