    Abstract: A method includes acquiring a core sample from a first reservoir of interest that is producing hydrocarbons at a first recovery rate. The method includes performing a coreflooding study using a core flood apparatus. The coreflooding study includes a plurality of coreflooding simulations using the core sample disposed in the core flood apparatus. The method includes performing a reservoir simulation study on the first reservoir using a coreflooding simulation model and using the coreflooding study. The method includes adjusting a core flood fluid based on the reservoir simulation study to form an adjusted treatment fluid that produces a second recovery rate from the first reservoir. The second recovery rate may be greater than the first recovery rate. The method includes using an injection well and the adjusted treatment fluid for performing an injection operation of a reservoir.

    Abstract: Compositions that include cationic surfactants and methods of synthesizing compositions that include cationic surfactants. The surfactants include a quaternary amine and a saturated or unsaturated alkyl chain with 4 to 28 carbons. The surfactants can be generated by reacting a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group and an epihalohydrin in the presence of a base. The cationic surfactants can be generated by reacting a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group, an epihalohydrin, and a carboxylic acid. The cationic surfactants can be generated by reacting a carboxylic acid, an epihalohydrin, and a catalyst to afford a halo-substituted alkyl ester, followed by reacting the halo-substituted alky ester with a fatty acid modified with an amino alkyl group.

    Abstract: The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a system that includes a three-dimensional fabricator. An image processing module acquires an image of a rock sample having a network of pores, a transformation module transforms the image into a binary matrix and determine a set of statistical moments of the binary matrix, a layer generation module generates a first representation of a first stochastic layer based on the set and emulative of the rock sample and generates a second representation of a second stochastic layer based on the set and emulative of the rock sample. An arrangement module arranges the first representation and the second representation as adjacent layers of a three-dimensional model emulative of the rock sample, and provides the first representation and the second representation to the 3D fabricator for fabrication as a physical three-dimensional fluid micromodel emulative of the rock sample.
