Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for tools having non-resonant circuits for analyzing a formation and/or a sample. For example, nuclear magnetic resonance and resistivity tools can make use of a non-resonant excitation coil and/or a detection coil. These coils can achieve desired frequencies by the use of switches, thereby removing the requirement of tuning circuits that are typical in conventional tools.
Abstract:
A gravimeter, a gravimeter system, and a method for measuring gravitational acceleration within a borehole are described herein. The gravimeter includes a proof mass that is constrained by springs and an optical interferometer for measuring displacement of the proof mass. The optical interferometer generates a light path from a light source to a reflective surface on the proof mass. Spatial displacement of the proof mass from a reference position to a position of gravitational equilibrium is determined by measuring a change in length of the light path. In turn, gravitational acceleration can be determined from the spatial displacement of the proof mass. A number of such gravimeters can be used in a gravimeter system to make measurements of gravitational acceleration in variety of different directions.

Abstract:
A drill bit includes a plurality of blades. The blades provide a plurality of cutting elements or teeth arranged on a leading face of the blade. At least one temperature sensor is provided adjacent at least one of the teeth of at least one blade to sense a local temperature of the blade adjacent that tooth. Multiple temperature sensors may be provided adjacent different teeth of a blade or adjacent the teeth of at least two blades, or adjacent multiple teeth of multiple blades. Another temperature sensing element may be provided on a proximal portion of the blade distant from the cutting elements or on the shank of the bit to provide a reference temperature for the drill bit or for the blade. Information obtained by the temperature sensing elements is used to provide information regarding at least one of the drill bit, the drilling environment and the formation.
Abstract:
Degradation agent encapsulation is provided. In one possible implementation, a capsule includes a degradation agent configured to encourage degradation of the part and a coating at least partially encapsulating the degradation agent. The coating is engineered to be compromised upon exposure to one or more activation triggers. In another possible implementation, a degradable part includes one or more capsules embedded in the part. The capsules include a degradation agent at least partially encapsulated in a coating engineered to be compromised upon exposure to one or more activation triggers.
