Abstract: 1,082,767. Nozzles. SPRAYING SYSTEMS CO. Aug. 5, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 33563/65. Heading B2F. A nozzle for use in de-scaling apparatus is adapted to produce an elongated discharge and includes a baffle or guide device 30 formed of a hollow tube having a tapered lower end 31T and supporting a vane unit 32 at its upper end. The tapered end 31T of the device is adapted to seat on the tapered surface (120T) of a nozzle (15), Fig. 4 (not shown) when the device, which helps to stabilize the discharge, is inserted in the nozzle. A snap ring 31R aids the mounting of the device. A plurality of the nozzles is mounted adjustably in opposed pipes (12), (14), Fig. 1 (not shown) and the upper end of each nozzle is provided with an extension into the respective pipe in the form of a strainer (24) having slotted walls (1245), Fig. 4. The nozzle (15) is provided with an elongated outlet (205) and the vane unit 32 is cruciform in cross-section and formed of plate-like arms which extend partially into the device.

Abstract: 1,009,184. Spray-producers. SPRAYING SYSTEMS CO. May 30; 1963 [July 18, 1962], No. 21666/63. Heading B2F. In a trigger operated airless paint spray gun 22, Fig. 1, the trigger 25 may be rendered inoperative by rotating a member 54 such that it presents a stop surface to the trigger side walls 25s, Figs. 7, 9. The gun is also characterized in that a valve seat member 40, Fig. 2, located in the barrel 21 and engageable by a needle-valve carried by a trigger operable rod 24 is shaped to form an oval discharge orifice 42, Fig. 4, such that when the spray tip 23 is removed for cleaning &c. any pressurized paint escaping from the gun is caused to diverge into a spray-like form rather than emerge as a solid stream. The pressurized paint enters the barrel 21 through a nipple_45 a suitable packing gland 46 being provided to seal the entry point of the rod 24, Fig. 7. The latter is secured to the trigger 25 through a nut 49, such that actuating movement of the trigger when the member 54 has been rotated to remove the stop surface, Fig. 8, withdraws the needle-valve from the valve seat member 40 against the action of a spring 57, a U- shaped member 48 and plunger 56 being attached to the trigger for this purpose. The amount of withdrawal movement and tensioning of the spring 57 is adjustable by a rotatable plug 55. (For Figures see next page)

Abstract: 982,648. Spray producers. SPRAYING SYSTEMS CO. Jan. 28, 1964 [May 1, 1963], No. 3575/64. Heading B2F. A swivel mounting 10 for a spray nozzle 20 suitable for discharging paint &c. comprises a first body portion 15 having an inlet passage 24, a second body portion 16 having an outlet passage 52, said second body portion being adapted to carry the nozzle 20, an elongated stem 17 extending through aligned bores in said bodies and having at one end an enlarged cylindrical portion adapted to press a packing ring 55 against a seat 50S in the body portion 16 and at the other end a screw thread adapted to be engaged by a nut 58 which presses a packing ring 58P against a seat in the body portion 15, and means for preventing rotation of the stem relative to the body 15 whilst permitting pivotal movement of the body 16 about the axis defined by the stem 17. Paint enters the mounting through a needle valve 35 and reaches the nozzle 20 via passages 24, 50, 51 and 52. The body 15 is joined to the body 31 of the valve section by a connection 30. The stem 17 is held against rotation by the interaction of a hexagonal enlargement 17E on the stem with a hexagonal passage in the body 15, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
