A method of driving a head mounted display is provided. The method derives a position adjustment data by displaying a binocular position adjustment image on a left-eye panel region and a right-eye panel region, derives a size adjustment data by displaying a binocular size adjustment image on the left-eye panel region and the right-eye panel region, generates a luminance adjustment data based on a difference between a left-eye and a right-eye luminance perception data, converts an image source into an input image data based on the position adjustment data, the size adjustment data, and the luminance adjustment data, and displays an image corresponding to the input image data.

A display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a color compensator calculating a mixed color coordinate of a mixed light of an image light and an external light based on a first color coordinate of the image light, a second color coordinate of the external light, and a luminance ratio of a second luminance value of the external light to a first luminance value of the image light and compensating the first color coordinate based on the mixed color coordinate to generate an output image data, and a panel driver providing a driving signal to the display panel to display an image corresponding to the output image data.

A method of operating a display device is proposed. In the method, an input gray data is received, a luminance of external light is measured, the input gray data is converted into a linear gray data that is linearly proportional to a lightness obtained from a sum of a luminance of the display device and the luminance of the external light, and a display panel is driven by the use of the linear gray data.

A transparent display panel includes a transparent display structure and a light transmittance adjusting structure. The transparent display structure includes a display region and a transmittance region. The light transmittance adjusting structure is located over or under the transparent display structure. The light transmittance adjusting structure includes a volume changeable material of which a volume is changed in response to intensity of incident light or a photochromic material of which a coloring degree is changed in response to the intensity of incident light. The transparent display panel effectively improves quality of an image displayed on the transparent display panel by maintaining or adjusting a contrast ratio of the image according to the intensity of the incident light.

A transparent display device includes a transparent display panel which displays an image, a scan driver which provides a scan signal to the transparent display panel, a data driver which driver converts image data into a data signal based on an applied gamma curve and provides the data signal to the transparent display panel, a timing controller which controls the scan driver and the data driver, and a gamma curve adjuster which adjusts the applied gamma curve based on a reference gamma value of a reference gamma curve, luminance of incident light that enters the transparent display panel, light transmittance of the transparent display panel, and panel-luminance of the transparent display panel.
