    Abstract: An apparatus and method for selecting the best beam in a wireless communication system are provided. An operation of a Base Station (BS) includes repeatedly transmitting reference signals beamformed with a first width, receiving a feedback signal indicating at least one preferred-beam having the first width from at least one terminal, determining a direction range within which reference signals beamformed with a second width are to be transmitted and a transmission pattern, based on the at least one preferred-beam having the first width, repeatedly transmitting the reference signals beamformed with the second width within the determined direction range according to the transmission pattern, and receiving a feedback signal indicating at least one preferred-beam having the second width from the at least one terminal.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a 5G or pre-5G communication system for supporting a higher data transfer rate beyond a 4G communication system such as LTE. A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving channel state information are disclosed. The method comprises: a step of transmitting, to a terminal, a signaling message including first information indicating at least one precoding matrix which is applicable to a symbol vector to be transmitted; a step of transmitting, to the terminal, a channel status information-reference signal (CSI-RS) for the terminal; and a step of receiving channel state information including a channel quality indicator (CQI) which is calculated using the selected precoding matrix on the basis of second information from the terminal.

    Abstract: A communication method and an apparatus using beamforming in a wireless communication system are provided. The communication method includes determining a candidate user set including one or more Mobile Stations (MSs), for Multiple User-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) transmission, transmitting beam information indicating best Base Station (BS) transmission beams of the MSs of the candidate user set to the MSs of the candidate user set, receiving Precoding Matrix Index (PMI) information indicating a PMI to be used for baseband precoding from each of the MSs of the candidate user set, the PMI information being determined based on the beam information, and transmitting a signal precoded based on the PMI information to at least one MS.
