Abstract: A method for determining stick slip conditions. The method may include disposing an operating apparatus in fluid communication with a pressure wave transmission medium. At least one pressure measurement device may be disposed at least partially within the pressure wave transmission medium and at some distance from the operating apparatus. One or more pressure waves generated by the operating apparatus may be measured within the pressure wave transmission medium with the at least one pressure measurement device and pressure measurement data may be generated therefrom. The pressure measurement data from the at least one pressure measurement device may be transmitted to a data acquisition system. The pressure measurement data may be analyzed to detect one or more stick slip conditions from one or more variations in the pressure measurement data.

Abstract: A method includes receiving time-series data during operation of one or more equipment systems at a rigsite, and automatically segmenting partitions from the time-series data with respect to an individual pipe of a drillstring using separately and symbolically computed inferred equipment states and activity states. The partitions include an in slips partition for a time interval between setting slips and releasing the slips. The method further includes operating a controller to control one or more of the equipment systems based at least in part on one or more operational sequence times of the in slips partition.
