Abstract:
Disclosed are a method, apparatus, and system for managing connections in a wireless communication network. When a user equipment device (UE) transitions between an idle state and an active state, a radio link is established between a base station and the UE and a core network link is established between the base station and a core network entity. In response to detecting that no data packets are exchanged between the UE and the base station, a timer is initiated. Further, in response to detecting that data packets are being exchanged between the UE and the base station, the timer is reset. The radio link is released in response to the timer reaching a first predetermined value associated with a first inactivity period and the core network link is released in response to the timer reaching a second predetermined value associated with a second inactivity period.
Abstract:
A base station or other entity in a wireless communication system detects high use of air interface resources and responsively identifies one or more served devices that have reported threshold similar coverage quality for the base station and for an adjacent base station. And the base station applies a limit to allocation of resources for each such identified device.
Abstract:
A wireless communication device (WCD) may be configured to engage in a wireless data communication session of a given type. The WCD may determine the given type of wireless data communication session, and based on the given type, the WCD may set itself to operate in a current operational state selected from a group consisting of a first and second operational state. While engaged in the wireless data communication session, the WCD may wirelessly receive a voice call setup request from a radio access network (RAN) seeking to set up a voice call to the WCD over an air-interface protocol. In accordance with the current operational state, the WCD may make a decision of whether to accept or reject the voice call request so as to interrupt or not interrupt the wireless data communication session.
Abstract:
A method and system is disclosed for selection of an air interface protocol based on spectral efficiency (SE). When a request for service is received from a wireless communication device on a first air interface, a requested SE of the request will be determined, and a first ratio of the requested SE to an average SE on the first air interface computed. If the first ratio is greater than a threshold, the requested service will be provided on the first air interface. Otherwise, a projected SE of providing the requested service on a second air interface will be determined, and a second ratio of the projected SE to an average SE on the second air interface computed. If the first ratio is greater than the second ratio, the requested service will be provided on the first air interface. Otherwise, the requested service will be provided on the second air interface.
