    Abstract: An opening and closing mechanism of a double opening storage device including a box main body and a lid body includes a rod and an engagement hole corresponding to a first rotating shaft, a rod and an engagement hole corresponding to a second rotating shaft, first and second biasing members that engage the rods with the engagement holes, first and second operation units that displace the rods in an engagement-releasing direction by an opening operation, and a malfunction prevention device that prevents the opening operation of the first operation unit and the second operation unit from being performed at the same time. The malfunction prevention device includes a base member, first and second stoppers that are respectively rotatable around a first shaft and a second shaft with respect to the base member, and a spring member which is interposed between the first and second stoppers.

    Abstract: An instrument panel of an automobile includes a base and a covering bonded to a surface of the base. A cleavage groove is formed on the back of the base. When the base is cleaved by inflation pressure of an airbag, the cleavage groove serves as a starting point of the cleavage. The covering is formed by a ground fabric layer made of knitted fabric and a covering layer bonded the surface of the ground fabric layer. The ground fabric layer is formed of an original fabric in which the tensile strength in directions along its surface is anisotropic. The cleavage groove includes a first groove section, which is cleaved first. The covering is oriented with respect to the base such that the direction of the smallest tensile strength of the ground fabric layer matches with a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the first groove section extends.

    Abstract: An instrument panel has a base member and a cover member, which is adhered to the top surface of the base member. A first cleavage groove serving as a start point of rupture of the base member caused by inflation pressure of an airbag is formed in the back surface of the base member. The cover member is configured by a ground fabric layer, a cover layer adhered to the top surface of the ground fabric layer, and a cushion layer adhered to the back surface of the ground fabric layer. The cushion layer is formed of a knitted original fabric. A second cleavage groove is formed only in the back surface of the cushion layer out of the layers configuring the cover member in correspondence with the first cleavage groove of the base member.

    Abstract: An instrument panel has a substrate and a cover formed by laminating a cushion layer on the back surface of a cover body. A terminal portion of the cushion layer includes a body portion and a peripheral edge portion. The peripheral edge portion is plastically deformed into a compressed state and located around the body portion. The terminal portion of the substrate includes a flat portion and a flange portion. The flange portion surrounds the flat portion in a state of protruding to the top side.
