    摘要: A ballast control circuit having a bridge driver for driving a transistor bridge of a ballast circuit coupled to a resonant ballast output stage including a lamp, the ballast control circuit comprising a circuit for setting a minimum oscillation frequency and a voltage controlled oscillation circuit having a first input, wherein as a voltage at the first input increases, modes of the circuit change from a preheat mode where the frequency of oscillation moves from a first frequency to a lower preheat frequency and continues at a substantially constant preheat frequency for a set duration of preheat time, to an ignition mode where the frequency moves lower towards a resonance frequency of the ballast output stage until the lamp ignites, and to a run mode where the frequency stops decreasing and stays at the minimum set frequency.

The single stage buck-boost converter reduces the complexity and parts count of the power converter, or electronic ballast, while permitting PFC and DC bus voltage regulation under control of the integrated circuit to maintain constant power on the HID lamp. The integrated circuit simplifies the design of power converters and electronic ballasts in particular, while reducing part count, complexity and cost in conjunction with the single stage buck-boost converter and the full bridge switching circuit.

    摘要: A power converter provides constant load power while achieving a high power factor in a single stage configuration with reduced component count and ratings. The power converter takes a rectified line input to a switching half-bridge that supplies current to a load. A series combination of shunt switch and capacitor is connected across the load to store energy from the input and supply energy to the load. The switches are operated with conduction angles that achieve constant power supplied to the load while drawing a sinusoidal current in phase with the input voltage to achieve high power factor. The circuit provides a simplified configuration over prior power converters that may be used with a resonant load as part of an electronic ballast or an AC-to-DC converter. The power converter configuration and operation also achieves a low total harmonic distortion on the input line power.

The IRS21681D is based on the popular IR2166 control IC with additional improvements to increase ballast performance. PFC circuitry operates in critical conduction mode and provides high PF, low THD and DC bus regulation. The IRS21681D features include programmable preheat and run frequencies, programmable preheat time, programmable ignition ramp, programmable PFC over-current protection, and programmable end-of-life protection. Comprehensive protection features such as protection from failure of a lamp to strike, filament failures, end-of-life protection, DC bus under-voltage reset as well as an automatic restart function, have been included in the design. The IRS2168D has, in addition, closed-loop half-bridge ignition current regulation and a novel fault counter. The IRS21681D, unlike the IRS2168D, ramps up during ignition and shuts down at the first over-current fault. The IRS21681D and IRS2168D are both available in either 16-pin PDIP or 16-pin narrow body SOIC packages.

    摘要: A ballast control circuit for use with a fluorescent lamp in accordance with an embodiment of the present application includes a voltage controlled oscillator operable to provide an operating signal for the ballast control circuit, wherein a frequency of the operating signal depends on an input voltage provided to the voltage controller oscillator, and a driver circuit operable to provide a first driver signal via a first driver terminal and a second driver signal via a second driver terminal to a first switch and a second switch of a half bridge, respectively, wherein the first switch and the second switch are connected in series across a power source, such that a desired output voltage for powering the fluorescent lamp is provided at a node between the first switch and the second switch. The first control signal and the second control signal control the first switch and the second switch to provide a desired duty cycle and dead time based on the frequency of the operating signal. The input voltage of the voltage controlled oscillator is provided at a power supply terminal of the ballast control circuit and is maintained within a desired range such that the frequency of the operating signal is maintained in a second desired range.
