Abstract: A device may comprise a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may comprise a plurality of slots configured to receive a plurality of fiber optic cables. Each fiber optic cable may be received in a respective slot of the plurality of slots. The second portion may comprise a plurality of protruding members configured to bend the plurality of fiber optic cables, received in the first portion, to cause the plurality of fiber optic cables to emit light. The second portion may further comprise the light detection unit. The light detection unit may be configured to determine whether light emitted by a fiber optic cable is detected; and provide an indication regarding a port of the plurality of ports based on determining that the light, emitted by the fiber optic cable, is detected. The fiber optic cable may be connected to the port.

Abstract: In some implementations, a system may receive a cable map for a deployed cable. The system may receive vibration data indicating a vibration associated with a first section of the cable. The system may determine a characteristic associated with the first section of the cable based on the vibration. The system may determine a location associated with the characteristic based on the cable map. The system may determine that the first section of the cable is associated with the location based on the location being associated with the characteristic. The system may associate the location and a length of a second section of the cable extending from an initial location to the location. The system may receive an input identifying the length of the second section of the cable and may output the location based on associating the location and the length of the second section of the cable.

Abstract: An actuator device can include a plate, an actuator, a connector, and a power unit. The plate can retain a section of an optical fiber at the transmitter end of an optical communication link. The section of the optical fiber can be wrapped in at least a partial loop and held or retained by the plate. The connector can be a mechanical connector that couples the plate to the actuator and enables the plate to move about at least one axis to cause a change in a polarization state of the optical signal carried by the optical fiber. The change in the polarization state is identifiable by a polarized photodetector near a receiver end of the optical communication link. The power unit can provide power to at least the actuator.

Abstract: A device may provide a signal with a first wavelength and a second wavelength to a fiber cable, and may receive an intensity change measurement of backscattered light based on the first wavelength of the signal. The device may receive a differential phase change measurement of the backscattered light based on the second wavelength of the signal, and may determine whether there is a fiber loss change, a fiber length change, and/or a fiber cut associated with the fiber cable based on the intensity change measurement. The device may determine whether there is an abnormal event associated with the fiber cable based on the differential phase change measurement, and may report one or more of the fiber loss change, the fiber length change, the fiber cut, or the abnormal event.

Abstract: In some implementations, a device may transmit communication data to a transceiver via an access fiber optic cable. The device may determine that fiber sensing is to be performed for the access fiber optic cable. The device may cease transmission of the communication data for a predetermined time period. The device may generate an optical pulse after ceasing transmission of the communication data. The device may transmit the optical pulse to the transceiver via the access fiber optic cable. The device may receive, prior to expiration of the predetermined time period, a reflected signal from the access fiber optic cable based on the optical pulse. The device may analyze the reflected signal to generate sensing results. The device may perform one or more actions based on the sensing results.

Abstract: A monitoring system connected to a network may receive a request from a user device over the network to monitor a fiber cable. A fiber sensing device may connect to the monitoring system, may communicate messages with the monitoring system, and may connect to the fiber cable. The fiber sensing device may receive an instruction from the monitoring system to begin a monitoring function for the fiber cable, and may provide a first optical signal to the fiber cable. The fiber sensing device may receive, from the fiber cable, a second optical signal, based on the first optical signal, and may detect a risk to the fiber cable based on the second optical signal. The fiber sensing device may send an alert about the risk to the fiber cable to the monitoring system, and the monitoring system may send the alert over the network to the user device.

Abstract: A device may provide a first optical signal to a destination terminal via a fiber cable and a plurality of sensing repeaters provided at intermediate sites of an ultra-long-haul transport network. The device may receive a second optical signal, based on the first optical signal, via the fiber cable and the plurality of sensing repeaters provided at the intermediate sites of the ultra-long-haul transport network. The device may determine whether the fiber cable has an issue based on the second optical signal, and may perform one or more actions based on whether the fiber cable has an issue.
