摘要: A catheter is adapted to exchange heat with a body fluid, such as blood, flowing in a body conduit, such as a blood vessel. The catheter includes a shaft with a heat exchange region disposed at its distal end. This region may include at least one balloon which is adapted to receive a remotely cooled heat exchange fluid preferably flowing in a direction counter to that of the body fluid. Embodiments including multiple balloons enhance the surface area of contact, and the mixing of both the heat exchange and the body fluid. The catheter can be positioned to produce hypothermia in a selective area of the body without cooling the entire body system. It is of particular advantage in brain surgeries where stroke, trauma or cryogenic tumors can best be addressed under hypothermic conditions. Heat pipe technology can be used to form a heat pipe heat exchange catheter. The heat pipe heat exchange catheter includes metallic bellows which allow for flexibility. The temperature control source can be portable to enable the heat pipe heat exchange catheter to be used in the ambulatory environment.

摘要: A patient control system uses a patient-implanted catheter in thermal communication with a fluid bath via a circulating fluid circuit. A controller automatically controls the temperature of the fluid bath as required for selectively cooling or heating the patient in accordance with patient temperature measurements. The controller thermally decouples the catheter and patient from the fluid bath during changes in fluid bath temperatures in order to overcome the effects of system thermal mass.

摘要: An accessory attachment system for a holster with a platform body with a plurality of apertures, a mounting plate with a plurality of apertures and an optional riser joint that provides an elevated solid mounting surface for attaching accessories to a holster to provide stability for the mounted accessory. In one embodiment, the accessory attachment system allows the mounting point to be moved from the edge of the holster to a more central location and allows for variation in accessory positioning with respect to the holster.

摘要: A telescopic intraocular lens system comprises a telescopic optical system comprising an anterior optic interconnected with a posterior optic. The optics are substantially aligned on an optical axis of the optical system. The optics are formed from a soft material and the optics are substantially immovable relative to each other along the optical axis in response to accommodative forces of the type observed in the capsular bag of the human eye.

摘要: A method is provided for implanting an accommodating intraocular lens system in a capsular bag of an eye. The method includes providing the accommodating intraocular lens having an anterior viewing element and a posterior viewing element. The anterior viewing element has a width in a range between approximately 4.5 millimeters and approximately 6.5 millimeters. The method further includes forming an opening in an anterior portion of the capsular bag. The opening has a minimum width not less than approximately 4 millimeters and has a maximum width not greater than approximately 6.0 millimeters. The method further includes placing the accommodating intraocular lens system within the capsular bag. The capsular bag overlaps at least a portion of the anterior viewing element and defines an overlap region with a width in a range between approximately 0.1 millimeters and approximately 0.75 millimeters.
