A pipe clamp includes a first jaw pivotally connected to a second jaw, each jaw having a connection flange at each of its ends, in which the flanges at the pivoting end of the jaws are provided with a first locking mechanism and the flanges of the jaws distal from the pivoting end provided with second and third locking mechanisms. The second and third locking mechanisms are shaped such that, when they are in place, the combined width of the second and third locking mechanisms is less than twice the width of their widest crossways section in the same plane when not in place.

A fluid flow control valve includes a housing having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, which define a flowpath therebetween. Within the housing is a chamber located in the flowpath between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. A valve member is mounted within the chamber from movement between an open position, allowing for flow along the flowpath, and a closed position, which prevents such flow. The valve member is biassed to the open position. The fluid control valve further includes a device for regulating fluid pressure to enable the fluid pressure to be set on the inlet side of the valve member.

The invention provides a sleeve for a cartridge-mounted mechanical seal, the sleeve being formed from two connected-together metallic components. The first component is made from a material having a relatively high chemical resistance, the second from a material having a relatively lower chemical resistance. The arrangement of the components is such that, in use as part of a seal, the sleeve has only its first component in contact with the fluid whose escape is being sealed. Such a sleeve is easier and cheaper to produce than one made entirely from a high chemical resistance material, and yet just as effective in use. The invention also provides a seal including such a sleeve.

A stationary assembly for a balanced mechanical shaft seal comprises a first annular member for surrounding the shaft and attachable to the housing, a second annular member having a radial face for mating with a radial face of the rotary assembly, and third annular member between the first and second member, the arrangement being such that relative pivotal movement is permitted about a first axis between said first and second members and about a second axis at right angles to the first axis between the second and third members, such movement resulting in no axial force being exerted between the members by any spring of the stationary assembly.

A mechanical seal support system includes a bladder accumulator and a device for generating an electrical signal responsive to the temperature and pressure within the bladder accumulator and for generating an electrical signal indicative of the volume of a liquid in the accumulator. A display device receives the signal and provides a visual indication of the volume of the liquid.

A mechanical seal has an axially floating seal face (21) in sliding contact with an axially stationary seal face (22). A biasing means (33), such as a magnet, biases the floating seal face towards the stationary seal face. The axially floating seal face and the biasing means are rotationally fixed relative to each other and the axially stationary seal face is free to rotate relative to the axially floating seal face. The seal may be used, for instance, as a bearing protector or isolator.

A split mechanical seal incorporating a spring retainer is disclosed. The mechanical seal of the present invention is constructed to prevent fluid leakages from equipment having a fixed cavity, containing the fluid, and a rotatable shaft. The spring retainer of the invention includes an annular plate which receives and holds a spring in the correct position inside of a seal housing and a radially projecting member associated with the annular plate. Movement of the retainer under the action of the retained spring is stopped by the projecting member abutting an appropriately positioned projecting element on the inside of the seal housing, before the spring is fully extended. This feature prevents the spring from fully extending and, thus, retains it in position between the retainer and the internal wall of the seal housing.

An isolator device, which may be a bearing seal or a bearing isolator, for use hindering fluid flow between components which are rotating relative to each other about a longitudinal axis, the flow being in one direction parallel to this axis, includes a stator for securing to a rotary fixed one of the components and a rotor for securing to a relatively rotating one of the components. The stator has a surface which extends longitudinally and adjacent to a surface of a component, which rotates relative to the stator. The fluid flow is between the two surfaces and the stator surface is non-parallel to the adjacent component surface and is shaped to promote fluid flow in a direction opposing the general fluid flow direction.

A cartridge seal having a sleeve for fitting over a pump shaft and, at one end region of the sleeve, a stationary seal whose floating component is biased towards its static component. The cartridge further includes a member longitudinally spaced from the seal, which member and the stationary seal are moveable longitudinally relative to one another. The floating component is biased away from said member and towards the static component, means being provided to limit separation of said member and the stationary seal. The invention therefore provides a complete mechanical seal in one cartridge.
