摘要： A tool for swaging a fastener collar around a grooved fastener pin to secure two or more work pieces together includes an axially elongated anvil and collet that can slide back and forth to perform the swaging operation. Localized side areas of the anvil and collet are cut away to define a clearance space that can fit around projecting portions of the work that might otherwise obstruct the tool against proper placement of the anvil against the fastener collar. The anvil and collet are rotatable as a unit to enable the clearance space to be oriented at any desired location around the anvil circumference.

摘要： A push-pull tool for setting multi-piece fasteners includes a piston that is movable back and forth within a cylinder in response to fluid forces on opposite faces of the piston. One of the fluids is an air-oil foam mixture that acts essentially as an incompressible liquid force-transmitter, while being somewhat compressible so as to absorb shock loadings associated with rapid piston movements. A check valve is included in the system to admit atmospheric air into the air-oil foam mixture, to thereby partially compensate for oil leakage that might inadvertently take place across the piston seals.

摘要： A blind bolt for securing workpieces including a sleeve, pin and lock collar, and generally being of the non-sleeve-expanding type (i.e., non-hole-filling), and adapted to have said sleeve in clearance in openings, said pin adapted to form a bulbed head on the sleeve shank, a pin stop defined by engageable shoulders on pin and said sleeve, a lock pocket defined by a conical bore portion in said sleeve and an annular lock groove in said pin when positioned in alignment by said pin stop, said conical bore portion terminating in an axially straight counterbore, an annular lock ring located within said counterbore and adapted to be engaged by a single action tool, said tool having means for gripping the pin and an anvil for engaging said lock ring and for applying a relative axial force between said pin and said sleeve via lock ring, said lock ring being urged against said conical bore portion, the angle of said conical bore portion selected to permit movement of said lock ring into said lock pocket at a preselected load while maintaining the frictional force against the pin (prior to engagement) below a preselected magnitude whereby said lock ring will move into said lock pocket to cooperate with said pin stop to prevent axial movement of said pin resulting from radial expansion of said sleeve.

摘要： The invention is a weld metal for welding of a titanium alloy member to a ferrous based alloy member as an intermediate transition zone between such members so as to overcome the metallurgical imcompatability of each such member, and which consists of a vanadium metal, titanium and iron and inconsequential amounts of brittle intermetallic compounds. The preferred weld metal is vanadium rich and contains no more than 50% combined weight of titanium and such a weld metal is produced in accordance with our invention by fusion welding, particularly capacitor discharge welding, which because of its inherent but heretofore unrecognized extremely fast quench or freeze rates will produce a fusion weld between these two metallurgically incompatible alloys which is free of brittle intermetallic compounds. It is also part of our invention that such a weld metal of the aforesaid composition will have independent use as a welding alloy, particularly when fabricated in sheet form.
