摘要： A drum-shaped conveyor rotates about a fixed axis and its core carries a set of angularly distributed sections indexible about axes extending radially of the fixed axis when the core is set in rotary motion. Each section has several parallel flutes for sets of discrete filter cigarettes which are turned end-for-end, as well as moved circumferentially and axially of the core, in response to each revolution of the core. Rotation of successive sections about the respective radial axes takes place at timely spaced intervals and in opposite directions. The conveyor can receive filter cigarettes from a maker and inverts the sets of cigarettes prior to admission of such articles into a packing machine.

摘要： A turn-around device for filter cigarettes wherein alternate flutes of a rotary drum-shaped conveyor transport pairs of filter cigarettes in such a way that the filter tips of each pair of cigarettes are adjacent to each other. One cigarette of each of successive pairs of filter cigarettes is transferred into one of two flutes of one of an annulus of inverting elements which are rotatably mounted on a rotary turntable. The turntable completes one full revolution about its axis while an inverting element completes one-half of a revolution counter to the direction of rotation of the turntable and about a second axis which is parallel to the axis of the turntable whereby a cigarette on the inverting element is automatically turned end-for-end when the inverting element returns to the station where its one flute has received a cigarette from the conveyor. The inverted cigarette is inserted into an empty flute of the conveyor in front of a first and behind a second non-inverted cigarette. The other flute of the inverting element simultaneously receives a non-inverted cigarette, and such cigarette is inverted during the next revolution of the turntable.

摘要： Two rows of filter cigarettes which move sideways are tested simultaneously while traveling in the flutes of a testing drum past a testing station where both ends of each cigarette receive testing fluid from a stationary source. The drum is provided with an annular flange between the two rows of flutes and with two rows of nipples which engage the outer ends of cigarettes during travel past the testing station to urge the inner ends of such cigarettes against the flange. Testing fluid is admitted by way of the nipples and through passages provided in the flange, and the passages of the flange are connected with an electronic or pneumatic testing unit during travel past the testing station. The testing unit controls an ejector which expels defective cigarettes from their flutes downstream of the testing station. One row of cigarettes is thereupon inverted end for end so that the cigarettes of the one row are deposited between the cigarettes of the other row.

摘要： Filter tipped cigarettes are turned end for end by a narrow flexible belt (10) which is twisted in a figure of eight about pulleys (13, 14). The belt (10) has flutes (8) which engage only the tipped ends (T). A tensioned thin flexible strip (22) covers the open sides of the flutes (8) to retain the cigarettes while being turned, and endwise movement of the cigarettes is prevented by a fixed guide (26).In a modification, a belt (34) has flutes (32) formed in opposite sides and extends between pulleys (36,38), with a single 180 degree twist in the upper run. After being tip-turned, the cigarettes are removed from the inner side of the belt by suction in flutes 50 and moved endwise by a cam (60) away from belt (34) for transfer to a drum 62. Belt (34) may have flutes in only one side, in which case a second 180 degree twist is formed in the lower run.
