    Abstract: The core of a bowden cable controlling an automobile choke or the like is connected to the rear end of a rod longitudinally displaceable in a guide mounted in the automobile dashboard with the front end of the rod carrying a control knob that normally projects from the dashboard. The rod normally is moved forwardly to operate the choke from an intermediate position with its rear end bearing on inwardly projecting portions of laterally elastically deflectable fingers formed integrally with the guide. If the control knob is forcibly depressed the rear end will deflect the portions and fingers laterally and allow the control knob to move against the dashboard out of harm's way.

    Abstract: An exhaust heater system includes an exhaust heater and an air supply tube disposed within the exhaust heater. Relatively hot exhaust gas from an engine is directed into the exhaust heater, whereby heat from the exhaust heats the interior of the air supply tube. The heat partially vaporizes liquid methanol injected into the air supply tube. To control the amount of heating, the exhaust can be directed to the air supply tube as well as an exhaust bypass, whereby exhaust directed to the exhaust bypass does not heat the interior of the air supply tube.

    Abstract: The intermediate positions of a carburetor choke valve between fully open and closed positions are registered during engine operation by illumination of light emitting diodes on a dash mounted indicator to warn the driver of incomplete opening of the choke valve after initial cold engine start-up. Signal generating photocells supply the position signals to the indicator under control of a masking plate restrictively directing illumination from a source to one of the photocells. A linkage assembly connects the choke valve to the masking plate for movement thereof to positions corresponding to choke valve positions.
