摘要:
A punching stylus for tabulating devices wherein the stylus is inserted through a selected hole in a rigid top plate of the device and through an aligned tabulating card. The stylus comprises a slender, rigid rod having a hardened tip and mounted within a non-rigid handle member in such a way that the handle is flexible relative to the rod. Thus, in use, the rod of the stylus will not break if the stylus is moved laterally or bent over when inserted in the plate hole of a tabulating device.

A method of recording bets in a public lottery comprises transferring data filled in by the bettor on an entry sheet to duplicate punch cards by means of a manual perforating device. The data on the punch cards is recorded by means of computers on magnetic tape and the results of the particular sporting event are recorded on a master punch card. The master punch card is then fed into a computer to select the winners of the contest based upon the previously stored data appearing on the individual punch cards.
摘要:
A data recorder for punching document cards including a flat deck which extends between and transports the document cards between a hopper and a stacker. A punching mechanism and a printing mechanism operate on the cards as they pass longitudinally along the deck. The deck is horizontal longitudinally thereof and is inclined with respect to horizontal transversely of the deck so that the document cards are readily observable as they are operated upon. The machine includes means for turning the cards through 90* with respect to the deck as the cards pass into the stacker, so that a stack extending parallel with the deck is formed. The hopper holds a stack of document cards so that they extend downwardly at an acute angle with respect to the deck, and a pick roll moves the cards off of the top of the stack in the hopper down on to the deck, rendering the top card in the hopper readily observable and replaceable.

Systems are disclosed for use in producing punched cards, indicative of subjects and characteristics of subjects defined in a succession of digital signal groups. In a preferred application of the invention, the signal groups define subjects comprising ordered grocery items and subject characteristics comprising the quantity of the item required. The signal groups are conditioned for transmission by telephone lines, are regenerated after transmission and are processed in a manner effective for operating a card punch machine having the capability of punching multiple card columns at one time. The regenerated signal processing is also effective to arrange subject and characteristic information applied to the card punch machine in a manner providing increased information content in the punched card, thereby enabling efficient warehouse operations.

A hand punching apparatus for translating information into a punched tape, comprising a base plate, a shaft secured to the base plate and carrying a plurality of coding disks stacked one above the other and each having information carrying notches and teeth cut along a peripheral portion thereof and a fine teeth segment along an opposite peripheral portion thereof to cooperate with a stop to fix a tooth in aligned position with a punch member, a lever attached to each coding disk for rotating each disk individually about the shaft when the stop is rendered inoperative, a plurality of punch members arranged in a matrix form and each line cooperating with the teeth of a disk so that a single disk will affect punching one line of holes in the tape, while a punching member extending into one of the notches will thereby be prevented from causing a perforation.

A PLURALITY OF PRINTED INFORMATION CARDS IDENTIFYING INFORMATIONAL UNITS ARE POSITIONABLE OVER A DATA PROCESSING CARD AND EACH INCLUDES A SLOTTED PORTION CORRESPONDING TO ONE OF THE ROWS OR COLUMNS ON THE CARD TO FACILITATE REGISTRATION OF INFORMATION ON THE DATA CARD BY A CONVENTIONAL STYLUS. The slotted portion of the printed cards are staggered with respect to each other so that as each printed card is positioned over the data card for recording, a different row or column of the data card is exposed. A plastic template having a plurality of perforations corresponding to the scored portions on the data card is positioned over the card for indexing the stylus. A selector card is positioned over the template beneath the printed cards and selectively shields portions of the data card to prevent accidental or undesired recordings. A Styrofoam cleaning base supports the data card to facilitate positive indexing of the stylus and an enclosing container is provided which also aligns the data card, template and selector card into proper registration. The printed cards are hingedly connected to the enclosure to permit rapid and facile registration of each individual card for informational registration. Each card is detachable from the apparatus after it has been used to permit registration of the next card. A reversible mailer is provided to facilitate ease in sending and returning the apparatus through the mails.

The time required to punch IBM cards can be reduced by using a memory for storing a large number of programs. The card reading capability of a conventional keypunch machine can be used to load the program information. The memory can also be used to store keystroke data while the system is executing automatic operations.

A recording tape punch comprises a housing incorporating a rotatable die wheel and a row of punches selectively operable by engagement with the die wheel periphery when the die wheel is displaced. The die wheel periphery is provided with apertures or dogs arranged in lines transversely of the wheel, the apertures or dogs in each line being arranged in the form of a code which is identified by an indicator wheel rotatable with the die wheel so that the punches in the row which are operated when any individual line is in register with the punches pierce the tape in accordance with a code shown by the indicator wheel. The die wheel is displaced by an operating handle which serves to advance a tape feed during its return movement.
