摘要:
Techniques described herein generally relate to methods of manufacturing devices and devices including a filament having therein or coated with a catalyst and carbon nanotubes. The device may be configured to produce light with a luminary characteristic having a value higher than a value of the luminary characteristic of a device having an uncoated filament at a same operating condition. The luminary characteristic may include one or more of device irradiance or light efficiency. The filament may be a tungsten filament, and the carbon nanotubes may include multiwall carbon nanotubes or single wall carbon nanotubes. The filament may be coated with the carbon nanotubes using one or more deposition techniques including electric arc discharge, laser ablation and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The filament may be coated with the catalyst using a method including one or more of electroless plating, electroplating, dip coating, spin coating, and radio frequency (RF) sputtering.

An incandescent light source display includes a container and a number of incandescent light sources. The incandescent light sources are located in the container. Each of the incandescent light sources includes a first electrode, a second electrode and an incandescent element. The second electrode is spaced from the first electrode. The incandescent element is electrically connected to the first electrode and the second electrode. The incandescent element includes a carbon nanotube structure.

A radiator 1 according to the present invention converts heat into electromagnetic waves and then radiates the electromagnetic waves through its surface. A number of microcavities are made in at least some areas on the surface, and the surface of the microcavities 2 is covered with a layer including tungsten that is bonded to carbon.

A metallic photonic box capable of intensifying light at a certain wavelength, includes: a metallic surrounding forming a resonance chamber; and an insulator layer, disposed in the resonance chamber, having a predetermined dimension defining a cut-off wavelength, which inhibits light of a wavelength greater than the cut-off wavelength from resonating, whereby when the metallic photonic box is heated to generate light radiation, the light radiation is intensified at a wavelength rage predetermined by the cut-off wavelength.

Manufacturing equipment and manufacturing process steps that improve upon prior art processes for the manufacturing of filament tube and arc tube light sources, their components and subassemblies, and lamps employing said light sources. A double ended, tipless filament tube or arc tube light source incorporates a drawn-down tubular body, and one piece foliated leads with spurs for process handling and for spudding into a filament with stretched-out legs. Bugled ends on the body provide a novel cutoff means, facilitate a flush-fill finishing process, and enhance mounting and support of the light sources in lamps. The foliated leads are made from a continuous length of wire in a process including foil hammering and two-bath AC electrochemical etching. Cost-reduced light source and lamp production enables affordable household consumer lamps, even when containing two series-connected halogen filament tubes. Safety benefits ensue from series connection, especially in combination with disclosed body and filament constructions.

It has been discovered that potassium retention in NS tungsten processing may be improved by double doping tungsten blue oxide (TBO) prior to reduction. The novel `double-doping` process consists of dry doping standard singly doped K--Al--Si TBO with potassium nitrate, KNO.sub.3, followed by the standard reduction, acid washing, sintering, rolling and drawing steps. In another aspect, the novel method includes an aqueous extraction of heteropolytungstate anion [SiW.sub.11 O.sub.39 ].sup.8- from a sample of the singly doped tungsten blue oxide to predict potassium retention.

Filaments having a thin exterior tungsten phosphide layer for use in incandescent lamps are made by exposing tungsten filaments to vapors of elemental phosphorous at approximately 675.degree. to 725.degree. C. in an evacuated vacuum furnace. The tungsten phosphide layer protects the filaments from oxidation while the lamps are manufactured, and decomposes to tungsten and phosphorous when the lamp is first energized by current. The resulting elemental phosphorous acts as a gettering agent.

A method and apparatus for manufacturing a lamp involves preparing a lamp assembly having a base to which is coupled a bulb with external lead-in wires. One of the lead-in wires has an outer end which is drawn out between the bulb and the edge of the base. A potential is applied between a welding electrode of a welding device and the tip of the outer end of the external lead-in wire to weld the lead-in wire to the base. During this applying of potential, a gas flame is interposed between the outer end of the external lead-in wire and the welding electrode.

The invention is directed to a process and apparatus for dissolving a molybdenum core wire in a tungsten filament coil which comprises reacting the filament coil in a sealed reaction vessel fitted with at least one liquid trap with an acid mixture containing nitric acid, sulfuric acid and water in the presence of an oxygen containing gas wherein the amount of the oxygen containing gas is controlled by a liquid level sensing device attached to the liquid trap. The invention enables efficient conversion of nitrogen oxide gases to nitric acid and recovery of molybdenum from the reaction vessel.

An electric lamp filament of tungsten is disclosed that has been coiled and heat-treated to at least 1600.degree. C. on a wire mandrel containing molybdenum but which is essentially free of molybdenum contamination. A barrier layer of tungsten or tantalum is provided on said mandrel to preclude the molybdenum contamination and the coated mandrel can thereafter be dissolved from the uncontaminated tungsten filament coil in an acid mixture.
