Abstract: Described embodiments enable device users sharing content items via a content management system to view and modify content items within native applications on their client devices. In various embodiments, a client application detects a save operation on a content item and prompts a user to provide a comment based on changes to the content item. User comments and metadata are provided to a content management system to create a historical log that provides a comprehensive summary of user interactions with a content item, including comments regarding content item changes, version information, and timestamps. The content management system provides the comments and other log contents to client applications associated with other users sharing the content item. The client applications use the comments and log information to provide notifications to the users regarding content item changes and comments by sharing users.

Abstract: An online photo management service that stores a collection of photos belonging to a user can send re-engagement messages to the user that can include photos automatically selected from the collection. The selection can be based on a scoring algorithm that rates the photos according to a set of attributes and computes a score based on the attributes and a set of weights. Based on user responses to re-engagement messages, the weights can be tuned to more reliably select photos likely to result in user re-engagement with the stored collection of photos.

Abstract: The present technology provide a mechanism for displaying and initiating actions and workflows for objects with a single drag-and-drop operation in association with a content management system. Drag operations may be monitored to trigger monitoring of a pointer performing the drag operation to detect whether the pointer is within a threshold distance from a chosen aspect, such as a system tray icon, and/or an area of a temporary invisible window. Upon detection, the drag operation of the objects may seamlessly trigger a presentation of a menu window. The menu window may display one or more icons representing different actions and workflows for which the object may be dropped, via a drop operation, upon to indicate a selection.

Abstract: The present technology operates in an application layer of an operating system on a client device of a content management system to monitor for changes to shared content items that are likely unintentional—for example the change might move a content item out of a shared space, or otherwise remove the shared content item from access by other users. The present technology can detect a content item change event on a client device, compare a source file system path for the content item change event with a destination file system path for the content item change event to determine a canonical move causing the content item change event, determine that the canonical move was likely unintentional; and display a notification informing the user that a content item change that was likely unintentional was detected and then allow the user to either confirm or deny (undo) the detected change.

Abstract: The disclosed technology addresses the need in the art for a content management system that can be highly flexible to the needs of its subjects. The present technology permits any object to be shared by providing a robust and flexible access control list mechanism. The present technology utilizes a data structure that is highly efficient that both minimizes the amount of information that needs to be written into any database, but also allows for fast reads and writes of information from authoritative tables that are a source of truth for the content management system, while allowing for maintenance of indexes containing more refined data that allow for efficient retrieval of certain information that would normally need to be calculated when it is needed.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques for combining content management system functionality with an email or messaging server. A system can associate an email with a content item, through express attachment, direct reference such as a link, indirect reference, or otherwise. The system can store the associated content item within content item storage or identify a stored content item that is identical to the content item that is associated with the email. The system can then enhance email service functionality with the stored content item. For example, the system can present the stored content item or information about the stored content item along with the email. The system can also automatically grant permissions to the stored content item with participants of the email.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided for managing and sharing picture files. In one embodiment of the present invention, the method comprises providing a server platform and providing a datastore on the server platform for maintaining full resolution copies of the files shared between a plurality of sharing clients. A synchronization engine is provided on the server platform and is configured to send real-time updates to a plurality of sharing clients when at least one of the sharing clients updates or changes one of said files. A web interface may also be provided that allows a user to access files in the datastore through the use of a web browser.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of a synchronization system facilitate selectivity synchronizing digital content items from a collection of digital content items to a local storage of a client device. In particular, one or more embodiments described herein collect and analyze recall data for users of a digital content management system with respect to digital content items to determine synchronization scores for the digital content items. One or more embodiments described herein further include selectively identifying a subset of the digital content items based on the synchronization scores to recommend for synchronization to a local storage of a client device.
