Abstract:
A portable hand-held device (10) for data collection by an operator includes a grip unit (12) having polarized connectors (31, 32) at the top and bottom thereof for removable engagement with mating polarized connectors (33, 34) in external modulus (14) furnishing operator selectable, application functions such as CCD or laser scanning, and radio frequency automatic identification. Device (10) is held and operable by one hand in either right- or left-handed configurations with the output from modules (14) directed away from the operator and toward the object from which data is to be obtained. The connectors (31, 32) are mounted in reversed orientation from each other, thereby insuring that external removable modules (14) are automatically connected in the proper orientation for the desired handed operation.
Abstract:
Various embodiments described herein are directed to methods and systems for blind mode adaptive equalizer system to recover complex valued data symbols from the signal transmitted over time-varying dispersive diversity wireless channels. For example, various embodiments may utilize an architecture comprised of a bank of estimation units, a normalizing gain estimator, a DSP unit and a feedback shift register providing the equalizer feedback state vector. The estimation unit may be further comprised of a multiplicity of adaptive algorithms providing various filtered estimates of the data symbol to the DSP unit or providing the joint estimate of the transmitted data symbol.
Abstract:
A blind mode adaptive equalizer system to recover the in general complex valued data symbols from the signal transmitted over time-varying dispersive wireless channels is disclosed comprising an adaptive communication receiver for the demodulation and detection of digitally modulated signals received over wireless communication channels exhibiting multipath and fading, the receiver comprising an RF front end, an RF to complex baseband converter, a band limiting matched filter, a channel gain normalizer, a blind mode adaptive equalizer with hierarchical structure, an initial data segment recovery circuit, a differential decoder, a complex baseband to data bit mapper, and an error correction code decoder and de-interleaver.
Abstract:
Various embodiments are directed to a non-linear amplifier system comprising a reference output generator, an adaptive filter, a amplitude distortion (AM-AM) compensator, a phase distortion (AM-PM) compensator, an adaptive spectrum controller and a non-linear system. The reference output generator may receive an input signal and generating a reference output. The adaptive filter may generate a modified input signal based on the input signal and the reference output. The AM-AM compensator may act on the modified input signal to compensate for AM-AM distortion. The phase distortion (AM-PM) compensator may act on the modified input signal to compensate for AM-PM distortion. The adaptive spectrum controller may provide parameters to the adaptive filter to minimize the power spectral density (PSD) of an output of the non-linear amplifier system in a stop-band and maximize the PSD of the output of the non-linear amplifier system in a pass-band.
Abstract:
A system and method for managing insertion of advertisements. The method includes receiving information associated with commercial breaks on a television or radio channel. Information associated with advertisements is acquired. The advertisements include one of regional advertisements and national advertisements. The method also includes determining the advertisements to be aired during the commercial breaks based on the information acquired and scheduling playing of the advertisements during commercial breaks. The system includes a user interface for providing information associated with commercial breaks and advertisements. The system also includes a media server for managing insertion of the advertisements. Further, the system includes one or more edge devices for fetching of the advertisements based on a schedule and inserting the advertisements for playing on the television or radio channel.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are disclosed that can adapt off-the shelf PDA devices (90) to user input/output applications such as data entry applications and cellular phone applications. The resulting apparatus (10) may be sized and shaped to be durable and facilitate handheld operation when the user is mobile during use. The apparatus provides features required for portable data entry such as key entry, barcode scanning, radio frequency identification, and wireless local area network (LAN) as well as wide area network (WAN) communications. The apparatus may be operated (a) in a slave mode with inclusion of a PDA device (90) for use in certain input/output operations that are processor intensive as well as (b) in a stand-alone mode without inclusion of a PDA device (90) for use in certain other input/output operations that are not processor intensive.
