Abstract: An exemplary inventive parafoil includes a soft wing and a semi-rigid skeleton. Configured to effect ram-air flight, the soft wing forms adjacent elongate cells directed from leading edge to trailing edge, with respective inflow vents arranged along the leading edge. The semi-rigid skeleton includes one or more cell-compatible support structures, each joined with a cell in furtherance of maintaining the cell's inflated shape and preventing its collapse under adverse aerodynamic circumstances. Each cell-compatible support structure includes a ring-like frame and two parallel rod-like projections attached perpendicular to the ring-like frame at laterally opposite locations. According to each coupling of a cell-compatible support structure with a cell, the ring-like frame is affixed at or near the cell's inflow vent, fitting onto or inside the cell lip; the two rod-like projections extend backward from the ring-like frame along part of the cell length, each integrated with or interiorly contiguous to the cell.

Abstract: A system for joining charged scuttle modules comprising modular elements and attachable components, including a male end adapted to join a single-piece female end by rotating the male end into the single-piece female end such that data bus terminals align and power bus terminals align. The system can be assembled from these modular elements and components to meet desired mission and performance characteristics without the need to purchase specially designed systems for each mission. The joints connecting the modules are designed such that power and data connections between modules are reliably made.

Abstract: A passively protected quantum memory in two dimensions includes: a square lattice of harmonic oscillators; each of the harmonic oscillators experiencing a coherent two-photon drive process and an incoherent two-photon loss process; each of the harmonic oscillators coupled to its nearest neighbor harmonic oscillator via a ferromagnetic Ising parity-parity interaction, which can be realized, for example, by coupling LC oscillators with a Josephson junction; and a cold bath coupled to the harmonic oscillators at a temperature such that parities of neighboring harmonic oscillators align through an energy dissipation process.

Abstract: A hydraulically operated tool adapted to remove coatings and surfaces from a substrate. The tool may comprise a robotic machine that includes a surface removal tool, a manipulator arm, and a rotation assembly. The manipulator arm may be hydraulically extended and retracted. The rotation assembly may comprise a spindle, and may be attached to a hinge pin and an air bladder. Abstract: Diets are described to increase productivity and reduce costs for the production of mealworm protein. Scalable, inexpensive, waste-free, and environment-friendly compositions using combinations of multiple by-products and food ingredients in the optimal proportions to optimize mealworm nutritional needs are described. The cost per kg of the new diets is similar or substantially lower than wheat bran, while at the same time improving growth, shortening development time, and increasing food conversion efficiency compared with wheat bran alone.

Abstract: In an example, a bin prowl apparatus comprises a bin prowl including a distal end and a proximal end. Abstract: A method of conducting oxidation in an inflatable bag bioreactor or a batch reactor is provided. The inflatable bag bioreactor or the batch reactor is used as an efficient, economical, and convenient reaction vessel. The inflatable bag bioreactor or batch reactor is rotated or rocked during the reaction to ensure continued exposure of the reaction mixture to the headspace gas in the vessel. The ability of the inflatable bag to expand or contract as the volume of the contents changes helps maintain consistent pressure and avoids the need to replenish the headspace gas.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for a software defined optical time-domain reflectometer (SD-OTDR) using high-speed optical transceiver modules. Enabled by the reconfigurable computing resource, an SD-OTDR in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure can realize in-situ diagnostics of optical fiber without adding any overhead to existing systems. In addition, an SD-OTDR in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure can also be used for high-resolution distributed sensing. Additionally, an SD-OTDR in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure can directly map optical reflections at different locations along the length of a fiber to a processing element array in a Field-Programmable Gate Array for real-time in-sensor parallel data processing.
