    Abstract: A compressor according to an exemplary embodiment of this disclosure, among other possible things includes, a rotor driven by a shaft and configured to compress air. A motor is drives the shaft. First and second journal bearings facilitate rotation of the shaft. The first journal bearing is located upstream from the motor, and the second journal bearing is located downstream from the motor. A thrust bearing also facilitates rotation of the shaft. The thrust bearing is downstream from the second journal bearing. A tie rod connects the shaft to a motor rotor shaft adjacent the first journal bearing. The tie rod includes an opening which is configured to communicate cooling air from the motor to the rotor. A method for cooling a compressor is also disclosed.

At least one bearing is utilized for facilitating rotation of the shaft. A motor cooling loop is configured to provide motor cooling air to the motor. A bearing cooling loop is configured to provide bearing cooling air to the at least one bearing. A bearing support is configured to support the least one bearing. The rotor includes an opening which is configured to communicate bearing cooling air into a cavity between the rotor and the bearing support. A method for cooling a compressor is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A sensor supply tube assembly is provided for disposition within a compressor outlet through which a main flowpath is defined and a sensor port transversely coupled to the compressor outlet. The sensor supply tube assembly includes first and second tubes. The first tube is formed to direct main flowpath fluid from the compressor outlet and through a portion of the sensor port and includes first and second ends disposed within the sensor port and the compressor outlet, respectively, and a curved section interposed between the first and second ends. The second tube includes a sleeve tightly fittable between the first end and the sensor port and a base. The base has an exterior surface from which the sleeve extends and which is disposed and configured to non-rotatably abut with an interior surface of the compressor outlet.

    Abstract: A method for repairing a turbine housing of an air cycle machine that includes removing damaged material from a journal bearing bore of the turbine housing and forming the journal bearing bore. Next, the inner diameter of the journal bearing bore is determined and a cylindrical insert is formed. The cylindrical insert includes a first end, a second end, an inner surface, a step located at the first end, and an outer surface with an outer diameter that provides a diametric interference with the inner diameter of the journal bearing bore. The second end of the cylindrical insert is inserted into an inlet of the journal bearing bore up to the step. The cylindrical insert is secured to the turbine housing and both are stress relieved by heating. Following the stress relief, the inner surface of the cylindrical insert is formed and seal grooves are formed on the inner surface.

A method for cooling a bearing positioned around a rotating shaft includes providing air to a cavity that surrounds a rotating shaft; deflecting the air towards an inner surface of a bearing that is positioned radially outward of the rotating shaft, wherein the air is deflected with an air deflector that is mounted on the rotating shaft; and flowing the air between an outer surface of the air deflector and the inner surface of the bearing.

The backing plate also includes a first surface extending between the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the backing plate.     Abstract: A method for repairing a turbine housing of an air cycle machine is provided. The method comprises: removing damaged material from a journal bearing bore of the turbine housing; forming the journal bearing bore to an inner diameter of about 2.580±0.001 inches (6.553±0.003 centimeters). The journal bearing bore having an inlet and an outlet. The method also comprises determining the inner diameter of the journal bearing bore; and forming a cylindrical insert having a first end, a second end, an inner surface, a step located at the first end, and an outer surface with an outer diameter that provides a diametric interference with the inner diameter of the journal bearing bore. The diametric interference being between about 0.000-0.003 inches (0.000-0.008 centimeters). The method further comprises inserting the second end of the cylindrical insert into the inlet of the journal bearing bore up to the step.
