Abstract: A rotary power tool may include a main housing, a motor positioned within the main housing, a handle extending from the main housing, a trigger that is configured to activate the motor when depressed, and a control board disposed within the handle and including a microcontroller (MCU), a first Hall sensor, and a second Hall sensor. The trigger includes a trigger body, a holder fixed to the main housing, the trigger body being movable relative to the holder along a longitudinal axis, an arm fixed to the trigger body and having a magnet holder that receives a magnet, and a spring for biasing the trigger body away from the holder. The first Hall sensor and the second Hall sensor are configured to detect depression of the trigger and emit signals to the MCU for controlling operation of the motor.

Abstract: A method of controlling a rotary impact tool includes activating a motor to provide torque to a drive assembly, providing rotational impacts to a torque stick coupled to an anvil of the drive assembly in response to a reaction torque on the drive assembly exceeding a threshold value, and sensing a position of the anvil with a position sensor. The position sensor transmits a first signal indicative of the anvil rotating in a first direction and a second signal indicative of the anvil rotating in a second direction, where the second direction is a rebound angle of the anvil. The method further includes calculating a torque transferred from the torque stick to a workpiece by multiplying the rebound angle by a torsional stiffness value of the torque stick and deactivating the motor in response to the torque exerted on the workpiece being substantially equal to a torque limit.

Abstract: A trigger assembly for a power tool includes a housing, a moveable plunger extending from a surface of the housing, the movable plunger includes a first end disposed externally from the housing and a second end disposed internally within the housing. The trigger assembly further includes a trigger shoe coupled to the first end of the moveable plunger, and an arm including a first side that is moveably connected to the second end of the moveably plunger and a second side that is coupled to a magnet. The trigger assembly also includes a sensor configured to sense a magnetic field of the magnet. Movement of the trigger shoe rotates the magnet, and alters the magnetic field sensed by the sensor.
