    摘要: A heater is installable in a fixing device having a fixing nip through which a recording medium is conveyed. The heater includes a base including a downstream portion in a recording medium conveyance direction. A heat generator is mounted on the base. A projection is disposed separately from the base and shifted from the heat generator. The projection is disposed opposite the downstream portion of the base. The projection projects toward the fixing nip in a state in which the heater is installed in the fixing device.

    摘要: A fixing device includes a fixing rotator and a pressure rotator that is disposed opposite the fixing rotator. A nip former is disposed inside a loop formed by the fixing rotator and disposed opposite the pressure rotator via the fixing rotator to form a fixing nip between the fixing rotator and the pressure rotator. The fixing rotator slides over the nip former. A flange supports the fixing rotator at both lateral ends of the fixing rotator in a longitudinal direction of the fixing rotator. The nip former includes a base and a thermal conductor that has a thermal conductivity greater than a thermal conductivity of the base. The base is greater than the thermal conductor in the longitudinal direction of the fixing rotator. The base includes a groove that is disposed outboard at least from the thermal conductor in the longitudinal direction of the fixing rotator.

    摘要: A device, and method implemented by the device, employs a fixing device to heat and apply pressure to an image forming substance held on an image holding member so as to affix the image forming substance on the image holding member. The device includes a web and a web driving mechanism that operate under the control of a controller. The controller controls a movement of the web to clean a nip portion of the fixing device during a suspending mode of operation. By moving the web against the fixing unit during the suspending mode of operation, the residual image forming substance is prevented from remaining on the fixing device for too long of a period of time, thereby lowering the risk of damaging the fixing unit, which may occur if the residual image forming substance is removed from the fixing device after being secured attached to the fixing device.

    摘要: A heating device includes an endless belt, an opposed rotator, a heater, and a heat transfer portion. The opposed rotator is configured to contact the endless belt to form a nip between the endless belt and the opposed rotator. The heater includes a plurality of resistive heat generators configured to heat the endless belt. The heater is configured to generate a larger amount of heat on a first side of the heater than a second side of the heater in a longitudinal direction of the heater. The first side is opposite to the second side with respect to a center position of a heating span of all the plurality of energized resistive heat generators in the longitudinal direction of the heater. The heat transfer portion is disposed on the first side to release heat from the heating span.
