Elastic thread can also be incorporated in other regions to cause rolling in or folding over of the edges surrounding the waist opening, thereby improving the appearance, and reinforcing threads are also incorporated in some of the regions surrounding the waist opening.

    摘要： A method of forming a combination panty hose garment from tubular blank members having leg and elongated upper portions terminating in an open end. The tubular blank members are placed together and aligned in side-by-side relationship and simultaneously slit and seamed from an aligned point in the upper edges to a predetermined point therefrom to provide a seam with predetermined length and free edges. A crotch piece is sewn by simultaneously slitting one of the tubular blank members from the predetermined point and seaming a first edge of the crotch piece to the one tubular blank member and by simultaneously slitting the other tubular blank member from the predetermined point and seaming a second edge of the crotch piece to the other tubular blank member and thereafter aligning the free edges and seaming them together from the crotch piece. The crotch piece may be diamond shaped.

The legs may be short to provide a panty, panty girdle and the like or they may be long and provided with foot portions to form tights, leotards, panty hose and the like. Fashioned front and rear gussets of the panty portion are provided with knit selvage edges to form a waist opening in the garment during the knitting operation and to eliminate the need for slitting the garment in a subsequent operation to form the waist opening. Elastic yarns may be incorporated in the portion of the garment surrounding the waist opening to provide an integrally knit elastic band around the waist opening.

    摘要： A unitary piece of knit fabric forms the main body portion and the crotch portion of a panty having at opposite sides, respectively, two vertical seams extending from the upper to the lower edge of the main portion, the two panty portions being integral (without any interconnecting seam) and defining leg openings; and an elastic waist band may be seamed to the main body portion along its upper edge. A pair of stockings of knit fabric are joined at their upper ends by expandible seams to the panty around the respective leg openings. The panty fabric offers substantially greater resistance to lateral stretch than the stocking fabric, whereby the panty effectively resists downward displacement on the wearer''s body under the increased tension created in the garment incident to bending movements of the wearer.
